If you've never played a sixer it will take getting used to. I read about fret buzz issues from other owners and I'm sorry to say I have the same issue...only in a couple of places. I don't care for battery powered pickups. My fingers hit the front pickup a little, which forces me to change my right hand positioning/technique slightly (can't lower PU anymore). The "basswood" body lacks density. Neck kind of feels like 4 string a BC Rich. Overall I'd say the bass and I will become good friends. A decent purchase considering the price.

I've played Dean Edge 6 over 10 years!

By Kirby D

from Miramar, Fl

Comments about Dean Edge 6 6-String Bass:

The Dean Edge 6 has an excellent feel and sound! I play gospel - quartet, r&b, soul, funk, reggae, contemporary, ccm, calypso, ballads, AC, rock etc. I've recorded a lot with my Dean Edge Q6! It has great active electronics. And the pickup blend and eq knobs...killer! I get fender jazz tones and Jaco-ish tones along with 'family-man Aston Barrett' heavy bass too. The fretboard is very very comfortable and makes playing easy, rewarding, and inviting. I don't have to wonder how will I achieve a wide scale of dynamics. The string spacing is moderate. And so is the fret spacing. The only thing I wish for is a hotter output. I compensate for this by tweaking my Ampeg's master output from 12 o'clock to 1'oclock or 1:30. I love my bass!

Comments about Dean Edge 6 6-String Bass:

This is a great instrument, if you can handle the 35" scale neck. Awesome tone, playable neck, solid weight and feel but not too heavy, balanced. Great for darker types of music. Mine was used so it has some buzzy frets, but aside from that, it's fine. Best action to set this at is 3 mm at the 24th fret; plays like a breeze once you get the truss rods adjusted. Unfortunately, Dean has discontinued the Edge 6, so buy them while you can get them, and please, tell Dean to keep making 6-string basses!

2 years and proud

By Potter

Comments about Dean Edge 6 6-String Bass:

I have been an active musician for 8 years and have performed in 30 or so diffrent groups and perform daily at the local theater. I bought this bass with low expectations but was pleasantly suprised. The active dual coil pickups combined with the three band EQ gives it a versitile sound suitable for any style of playing. The neck is easy to get accustomed to and is a very fast player. in all this bass is exellent for people who want a wider range and play multiple styles of music. I would recommend it to any one.

A decent intro 6 string

By BobbyWallis3301

from Pekin, IL

Comments about Dean Edge 6 6-String Bass:

I tried this bass out used at my local music store. While it has decent pickups, tone, and features/playability. There were a few minor flaws such as buzz on the D string(probably caused by a faulty nut slot). Still a nice bass for getting into the Extended Range bass style, at a not TOO heavy price. I will still be buying a Rogue LX406 first though.

This is my baby

By Whale Choker

from Mesa, Az

Comments about Dean Edge 6 6-String Bass:

I have owned one of these for a couple years...long before Guitar Center started selling Deans. I also own a Dean Rhapsody Q4. Dean makes the best basses on the market. One of the best features are the EMG-HZ active pickups. The sound is unbelievable. If I had to nitpick, I would say the only problem is that the strings are very close together making slapping a bit of a challenge. Word to your collective mothers.

Dean Edge 6=Brutal

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Dean Edge 6 6-String Bass:

Superb just fitted mine with ultra light strings and now possess the ultimate slap instrument, also easy to tap and bend strings with a very slick neck and a superb range of notes thanks to the 2 octave neck - you will need big hands however!

Lovin' It!

By The Silverback

from Vacaville

Comments about Dean Edge 6 6-String Bass:

This is an awesome bass for the price. I've used this thing on Everything from Jazz to Country to Funk and it shows the quality I expected of it. I have other more expensive basses, but this one seems to be the one I go to to get the "sound". One thing, though..GOTTA have heavy gauge strings if you're gonna slap on this baby...dunno, but it's a preference of mine. Peace.
