This is a great Bass guitar for a beginner, or to use as a backup. This guitar may not be anything spectacular but it gets the job done. The guitar is built well and the finish is very nice. For a budget guitar this one plays very well. The guitar lacks some of the punch that more expensive bass guitars have but then again this guitar only cost a small fraction of the price. I would recommend this guitar for a beginner or as a solid back up.

I got mine here at GC.com for $119.95, and I bought the 'Mahogany' finish. First impression was "Wow! what a good-looking bass!". It really is nice-looking in the 'Mahogany' finish, although it's not Mahogany wood, but a stained light-colored wood with a grain similar to Mahogany. Very solid, and heavy enough for good sustain without being a shoulder-killer. Tone....ehhh...the pickup could be hotter to grab more bottom, and it could have been placed a little better; more toward the bridge, about in the same place as a P-Bass pickup or a tad closer. But with the right EQ on the amp, it sounds pretty good, if a little slow on the attack (again, pickup placement). I find it sounds a lot better played with a pick than fingerstyle. Playability...Right out of the box, it was very nice, but I needed to tweak the setup just a little bit for my taste. The tuners seem good & solid, and work well. The bridge is a simple stamped unit, but has pretty massive saddle-barrels on it. I'm not crazy about the scarf-joint where the angled headstock is grafted in to the neck, because those always seem to introduce a little 'hump' there that the truss rod won't level out, ever. It might use a little fretwork to overcome that and a few slight buzzes here & there, but overall, it plays nice. Fit & Finish...Very nice; everything fits very well, and the satin finish looks really great and doesn't show fingerprints. Overall Impression...Very good quality instrument for the price, and an excellent starter bass or to keep around as a spare/backup. I bought mine so I'd have at least one bass with frets, as I play mostly fretless

This is my first bass and I absolutely love it. It sounds great, easy to play and is durable. The only downfall is the amount fingerprints I have because of the glossy, black finish.

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Ok, so I haven't picked up a bass in about 17yrs and I bought this one for my mid-life crisis, but the thing sounds good...I am horrible, but that is not the bass' fault. Seriously, I bought this as a cheap bass to bring with me to Iraq to kill some time, and I have to say, I am impressed with the tone and playability for this price. Like some others have mentioned, the pick-up placement could be better, but this bass is great for learning or re-learning. The picture does not do justice to the color of the bass...it is much nicer (lighter) in reality.

Compares GREAT with other Higher priced!!!!

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I went in to get a new Bass Guitar and played everything that was available to make the decision. The Dean Edge 09 I bought compared well with everything. Beat a group of much higher priced units. I even prefered it over the old stand-by Fender Jazz Bass. It was certianly the loudest of all, except the Schecter Raiden, both about the same. GREAT BUY, whether your first bass or a touring veteran. I will be back to buy another.

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

So i bought this bass for the bassist in my hand cuz he was short on money and i wanted to help out a bro so i got this. I swear i can't tell the difference between this and a squier P bass. This is an amazing bass for studio and live. Honestly this is good bass to start off with or to just jam with but eventually go better with ur bass. but this is great for a bass thats cheap and good.

        Great Beginner Bass

        By Adam Wielebinski

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

i got this bass about a year ago, and out of the box it was fantastic. I had to tune it a bit, but with a bit of adjusting, it was a great bass guitar. It isn't too heavy, and I know I'm sounding repetitive, but it is a great bass for a beginner.

        Amazing begginer Bass

        By Alex

        from McDonough, GA

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I havent been playing very long but i can still tell you that this is good for begginers. Although, like many others before me i must say that it has poor pick-up placement. And the strings buzz, a lot. Especially on the A string... although that might just be mine. Even when i first got it it buzzed quite a bit. Besides that, this is good for begginers. It is very durrable (thats a Dean for ya) and very much within budget. I would recomend it for begginers.

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this one for my boyfriend for Christmas as a surprise! He loved it! He said it was even better then some of the $2000 ones he had seen in the store on the walls! Def a great bass for anyone who is just starting out. Plus the mahogany finish is great if you don't like to see finger prints!
