This is a great Bass guitar for a beginner, or to use as a backup. This guitar may not be anything spectacular but it gets the job done. The guitar is built well and the finish is very nice. For a budget guitar this one plays very well. The guitar lacks some of the punch that more expensive bass guitars have but then again this guitar only cost a small fraction of the price. I would recommend this guitar for a beginner or as a solid back up.

I got mine here at GC.com for $119.95, and I bought the 'Mahogany' finish. First impression was "Wow! what a good-looking bass!". It really is nice-looking in the 'Mahogany' finish, although it's not Mahogany wood, but a stained light-colored wood with a grain similar to Mahogany. Very solid, and heavy enough for good sustain without being a shoulder-killer. Tone....ehhh...the pickup could be hotter to grab more bottom, and it could have been placed a little better; more toward the bridge, about in the same place as a P-Bass pickup or a tad closer. But with the right EQ on the amp, it sounds pretty good, if a little slow on the attack (again, pickup placement). I find it sounds a lot better played with a pick than fingerstyle. Playability...Right out of the box, it was very nice, but I needed to tweak the setup just a little bit for my taste. The tuners seem good & solid, and work well. The bridge is a simple stamped unit, but has pretty massive saddle-barrels on it. I'm not crazy about the scarf-joint where the angled headstock is grafted in to the neck, because those always seem to introduce a little 'hump' there that the truss rod won't level out, ever. It might use a little fretwork to overcome that and a few slight buzzes here & there, but overall, it plays nice. Fit & Finish...Very nice; everything fits very well, and the satin finish looks really great and doesn't show fingerprints. Overall Impression...Very good quality instrument for the price, and an excellent starter bass or to keep around as a spare/backup. I bought mine so I'd have at least one bass with frets, as I play mostly fretless

Great Finish and Tone

By SamO

from Malden, MA

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I just bought this to round out my small home studio. I didn't want to spend a lot of cash, since it is just to lay down tracks now and then. Well, I was pleasantry surprised. This bass is a great buy! The picture does not do the satin finish justice. It sounds and plays great...Great neck... And as far as staying in tune I have had no problems. In fact, it was IN tune when I took it out of the box. This is an excellent bass for a beginner, or for someone who just wants to have one around, just in case.

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

i may just be a beginner, but i think i know when i hear a good bass guitar. i have been playing bass for almost a year now and i bought this as my firts guitar. it has an awesome wood finish and probably has as much quality as a overpriced 500 dollar bass. probaly the only problem i ever have with this bass is that it goes out of tune in a short time(3 or 4 days) but other than that this is probably the best bass for its price.

Great for a Beginner

By Garrett

from Ellensburg, WA

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I've had this bass for about a month and a half now, and I really enjoy it. I bought this guitar in order to start learning how to play, and so far I can't say I'm disappointed. It's really easy to tune, and I don't have to re-tune it too often. The only negative that I've noticed so far is a lot of buzzing on the E string, but other than that it's top notch. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to start learning bass, but doesn't have a huge amount of money to spend.

Thia was my first bass guitar.I got it for christmas and the minute i took it out of the box i was stunned at how great it look. It sounds great plays well. I love the action the neck has its very fast. Its also really good if you use the pick-up as a thumb rest it works great for that since theres only one and its right in the middle.

Best Bass for the Buck

By crpowell78

from Port Saint Lucie, FL

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I purchased the Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar in the natural satin finish. Upon arrival I was very pleased with the looks of the bass. The curves and the satin finish give it a classy simple look. There is only one pick up, a volume and tone knob so there isn?t much diversity in tone but it does produce a decent tone. The action is good and it stays in tune quite well. I write a lot of music with big bends and have no problem with tuning. The Dean Edge 09 is used entirely for recording so I haven?t tested it on stage. It is light so I?m sure your shoulders would thank you on those double set nights. I haven?t played it through any amps, I use it only with pro-tools and run it through the Amplitube plug in and get great tones. This is a simple bass that is great for all genres of music. I am into simplicity so this was the perfect instrument for the price.

I've had this Bass for about two years and i can say that its served me well. Great sound and what not, just remember to keep the amp jack tightened because after a while it gets a little loose. all in all its great 4 stars.

Not bad for the Price

By Charles Hedrick

from Montgomery, WV

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Definitely a starter bass. Definitely a cheap one as well. Beautiful color and finish, minus some imperfection. Unfourtunately, Bowed neck, truss rod couldn't even fix it. This led to horrific fret buzz, even through the amp. Neck is not only bowed like the strings pulled it down, but also side to side!?!? This guitar is good if you need something to see if you like playing bass or not, but don't expect crazy quality.

pretty good bass

By Matt

from Camarillo, CA

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

ive been playing for almost 3 years now and this is my 3rd bass. i got it as a main bass other than my 5 string and my fretless 4 string. its a good bass, although i do agree that the pickup needs to be a little closer to the bridge. i still need to tweak the setup because the intonaion and action are way out of wack but all in all it is a very playable bass with a very easy neck that you can get all around on very fast, and a very light and durable body.

Output???

By Nick G

from Philiadelphia, PA

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

K, so Bass is great. I LOVE it. lightweight, and easy to play. Only problem is, after about a year, the output has grown loose and I now have to have it replaced. So my warning here is: buy the bass, be weary of the output jack.

I bought this one for my boyfriend for Christmas as a surprise! He loved it! He said it was even better then some of the $2000 ones he had seen in the store on the walls! Def a great bass for anyone who is just starting out. Plus the mahogany finish is great if you don't like to see finger prints!

Good for the price

By Seth

from Portland, Maine

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a good bass to begin with, I've been playing it for about 6 months now and its good, but has some definite flaws. The action is pretty terrible, leading to large amounts of buzz, and the pickup is too far from bridge which makes it somewhat of an obstacle for certain styles of play ( like funk slapping). Overall this is good for starters and sounds pretty good, just dont expect crazy quality

Fretless BOOM

By OmnibassJazzlover1974

from Winder, Georgia

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Well, as a starter bass, I was very happy. The bass had a quick neck, a pretty nice pickup, and could range from a decent metallic-Green Day-ish twang to an okay low sound. After a year or so, I bought my current primary bass, a 70's style Squier jazz bass that I've since tricked out with a tortoise shell pickguard, and some new, flatwound strings. I didn't have much to do with my old friend. I never even used it. So, after discovering the pre-Geddy Lee genius of Jaco Pastorious, I decided to attempt to make use of my original bass. I took plyers, a knife, wood filler, and poly to the neck, set the action a bit different, strung it with flats, and holy cow. I had myself a very fine fretless that could be thunderous and deep, or have that renowned, watery synth-wah sound. I was pretty pleased with the instrument at first pluck, but now that my buddy has gotten a face-lift, it's like a whole new, and very impressive guitar. Thank you, Dean for a very nice beginner's instrument that can only get better with age and modifications.

Great Beginner Bass

By Adam Wielebinski

from Newtown, CT

Comments about Dean Edge 09 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

i got this bass about a year ago, and out of the box it was fantastic. I had to tune it a bit, but with a bit of adjusting, it was a great bass guitar. It isn't too heavy, and I know I'm sounding repetitive, but it is a great bass for a beginner.
