Great sounding acoustic five string bass. Tuned right up and has decent action. Some may want their strings a bit lower on the frets and it is an easy adjustment for those qualified with the right wrench. This bass is nice and loud for acoustic jam sessions with multiple players and instruments. Awesome price point for the low end Dean playmate series and with five strings!

I ordered the bass from the store, and it arrived exactly when the rep told me it would. I played it unplugged at first and I was impressed. My band does both electric and acoustic gigs, but the acoustic gigs still run through a PA so I need that acoustic sound but plugged in. Anyway, the sound was rich, and full. The action on the neck was great, and even the B string was not muddy. Everything was clear, and I was impressed. Then I plugged it in. OMG. Snap, crackle, and pop - just like Rice Krispies. The sound was so annoying I couldn't take minute of that noise. The Dean guitar company could sell many of these basses if they remove the word "electric" and rip out the electronics on this bass and sell it as a straight acoustic bass. Acoustic - good. Electric - HORRIBLE!

Nice looking bass. You'll need a mic or a new pick up if you are planning to play this electrically. The pick ups are pretty much worthless. other than that, fun bass especially for a 5 string.

Comments about Dean EABC 5-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Great sounding acoustic bass. I was looking for a 5-string acoustic. Found this one. Good for the money. Very large body and scale. Recieved it with electric strings. Recommend a setup as well as acoustic strings when you first recieve it. Fun to play, and if you get it with seperate Dean case, good little package.

      Generally Satisfied

      By Robert

      from Washington, DC

Comments about Dean EABC 5-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

I've had this bass now for a few weeks and have been pretty satisfied with it so far, based on my expectations. This is my second acoustic bass, but my first five-string, so I was looking for a relatively inexpensive 5-string on which to learn and play around with "unplugged". So far, this bass works admirably for that purpose. Out of the box, it is nicely playable, with a decently low action, so I haven't felt the need to tinker with setup yet. I expect that will occur when I eventually change the strings out for ones with a warmer tone. I have done a little testing with this bass plugged into my 200 Watt amp, and while it is certainly quieter than my mainstay electric at the same volume setting, that has also been my experience with my 4-string acoustic. Right now, I've got plenty of wattage for most purposes, so turning it up is my answer, but I don't know yet how well it will work with my 25 Watt practice amp that I carry around when practicing at other locations. That could possibly push me into putting in a new pickup, but at the roughly $200 or so purchase price of the bass, it still seems to me like a pretty good value and I don't think that I'll mind adding some custom improvements like that over time. I didn't detect any of the static problems that I've seen mentioned in other reviews, but I haven't played it extensively plugged-in yet, either.

I got this for Christmas after wanting an Acoustic bass for a long time after selling my Washburn several years back. I must say that this one does NOT disappoint AT ALL!! This sounds GREAT unplugged and plugged in. I had to make NO adjustments at all other than a quick tuning. I would reccommend this one if your looking for an acoustic bass!!

      Absolutely Love This Thing.

      By Paul C

Comments about Dean EABC 5-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

This thing has an amazing sound. I usually use a Ibanez GSR205 but I love the way acoustic basses sound. Whenever I'm going somewhere, I bring this because it is loud enough to not have to have an amp.

      By Mr.Delano

      from yonkers, NY

Comments about Dean EABC 5-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

i was @ guitar center in brooklyn, NY and i was looking for an acoustic bass so i don't have to drag my amp with me everywhere i go. So i saw this bass in 4 string but wanted that 5 string sound so i get the bass ordered 5 days later i have it and barely put it down!! it has a smooth feel great sound look great the only thing with it is, its a massive body n the pre-amp is weak but if u just want it it have that acoustic bass to carry around without trying to find a power outlet then this is wat you need in your life!

      Good for a practice bass.

      By Diego Rossin

      from Miami, FL

Comments about Dean EABC 5-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

I only bought this bass because it was cheap and I needed a practice bass. And that's what it is. A few of it's pieces were loose and I had to glue them back together, it has no preamp so if you plan on plugging it in, do not buy it. And the cheapest acoustic 5 string you'll find.
