What I like about this little stick is that I can sit in front of my computer/speakers and play songs on Real Player or Windows Media Player without having hook up a bulky amp. Then, when I get ready to gig, I can grab my "P" Bass and go to work with plenty of practice under my belt. The tone is great for what I am doing in my practice sessions. The neck and body are great to work with, as well. In general a great little bass to play around with. Haven't even plugged it in yet, much less tried to use it on a gig, so I don't know how it would sound through an amp.

I never saw this guitar in person before I had purchased it, BIG mistake! Never buy a guitar without fitting it to yourself. If it doesn't feel comfortable for you to hold naturally, then you know it isn't gonna feel comfortable to play. Anyways, back to the review of this DEAN EAB(C). When I first received this guitar, the first thing I wanted to do with it was to return it. I should have. I bought this Bass from Guitar Center, from this web site, back in 2010. Then, when I first received it, the neck had a minor twist to it at the thirteenth fret into fret twelve, it had a nice hump on the bottom of the neck where G & G# is located for a second time but an octave higher. But I don't like shipping stuff back so I corrected that problem myself. But as time went on and wear and tear occurs, it just so happens that wear and tear really took it's toll out on this DEAN bass prematurely cause the fret board(finger board) has started to peel away from the neck up by the nut where F, F# & G are under the E string frets 1, 2 & 3. Cool huh? Three years old and the guitar is already shot out. But the wear and tear really doesn't bother me because I only used the acoustic bass to practice hammering, slapping & popping quickly, and to practice fingering to keep fingering speed at a decent rate so it doesn't sound like a pulse rate or gallop. Hammering strings, slapping and popping strings, and maintaining a decent rhythm while fingering strings instead of strumming them with a pick on an acoustic bass guitar is loud enough inside of an apartment.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

At the price I gave for it, WOW! 26 fret scale makes this thing Looooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggg!
Had to adjust the neck a little but it came right into place and plays absolutely wonderful but once again you have to get use to the size. This "ain't" no bass for the timid. Projects better than most, and the size is why. Get one and enjoy it as we have. Don't expect too much out of the electronics (two band) I will be changing them out ASAP.

Awesome Value

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Perfect "practice" bass. Keep it around for easy access when inspired for a new line or finger exercises. Full scale neck, decent action, quality construction / equipment for what you pay for it. This will not be your favorite stage bass, but it's absolutely perfect for keeping out in the house for impromptu playing without needing to set up hardware. You don't have to worry about friends picking it up to mess around with it. For around $150, this has awesome value. You can easily find higher quality instruments but this gets the job done for the right price and convenience.

If you're looking for a "serious" acoustic bass, do some research and ask around. There are a lot of reasons these acoustic basses are considered a novelty. Buy it for what it is:
Quick, easy access for practicing
Quality construction and average tone
Built in pick-up is very basic but very convenient
Fun for acoustic living room jams with friends
Priced at a point that is easily replaced

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

So I bought this so I could practice without plugging in and I liked it right away. Now I'm playing in an amplified acoustic band and I run it through the same rig as I run my ric thru. tuner, noise suppressor, chorus and sans amp. I don't carry an amp and just go direct. Honestly the guys say "jeez it sounds just like the ric!" I'm sure that has something to do with my setup and how I play but this thing is a really nice guitar. Had to add a sound hole plug and modify it so i could slap and so on but it plays and feels great. Our drummer uses electronic drums and our guitar player is acoustic as well.

I find myself at times playing it more like a guitar with a pic and open string chords and it adds so much to our three piece sound. At times the dynamics are a little wild but we're still tweaking our sounds and I'm sure that over time I'll be wailing away at this thing however I want. Now they just need to build an 8 string acoustic bass which would be really cool.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Got mine at a pawn shop with the box it came in. It had a couple little chips on the edge of the headstock from shipping I suppose, but no other blemishes or damage at all. Sounds great acoustic, and I haven't even changed the strings yet. Holds tune well, probably because the strings were wound correctly by whoever put them on at the factory. I use it for a travel bass and for acoustic open mike night type jams. Works very well for that level of volume, but it is an ACOUSTIC guitar with just enough electronics to be able to plug in. It is still a beginner level guitar so don't think you couldn't find something bigger for more money.
For the money, I would certainly buy this guitar again. Great value, makes a great beginner/student guitar since you don't have to have an amp to hear it in an apartment.

Good bass guitar for campfire jams!

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Good sounding, good playing bass for the price. Large body is a little uncomfortable after a long time but not a big deal. Bridge is different than the one in the picture. Not a big deal, just shaped different. Small amount of fret buzz out of the box. Neck adjustment took care of most of fret buzz. Good for campfire jams!

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

The bass is very nice and came with a good setup, however, some of the frets had sharp edges sticking out the sides. I had to spend about an hour dressing them with a flat file and emory board before the bass was comfortably playable. Now that the frets are all smooth on the sides, it plays great for the money.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

There are some bad reviews on here. I don't doubt that they have some duds on the production line, but I have TWO of these basses. One is a Dean and one is a playmate. The pickup is garbage, but it's acoustic so I don't mind. I'll probably get a Dean Markley acoustic pickup to double as a thumb rest (needs one badly). Yeah, there are some buzzy frets but only high on the neck (15th fret and up). I plan on ripping the frets off of one.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Reading all the reviews on every site I could find, I decided to try one of these. Maybe I just got a good one, but seriously, for the price it's pretty amazing. The truss rod was loose and the action a little high when I got it. I adjusted the neck, it plays sweet with no buzzing and stays in tune. I've played the Martin, Breedlove, Ibanez etc. I think there is something not 100% right with every one I've played. For the price, the quality is very good, I mean seriously, for the price, it's a good bass with a great sound. I suggest using a preamp if amplifying, if you do, the sound is adjustable and fine. I play it through a PA with compression, reverb and EQ pedals. This is a gem. I have many fine instruments and this fits in the arsenal just fine.

I think this Guitar is great for beginners like me. It doesn't require cords or an amp so I can take it anywhere and continue playing and learning. I've only had it for 2 weeks, but I enjoy it and would definitely recommend it to a Bass Guitar Beginner like me.

I had never played an acoustic bass until I picked one up and played it at guitar center. It's a different feel than an electric bass, but it's perfect. The sound is rich and loud enough to hear with guitar and a cajon playing. The neck is long and the 12th fret is easily accessible, so even though it's not a cutaway, it works out just fine. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
