Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

Ive been playing guitar for bout 7 years so I consider myself more than a novice at least. This guitar is great in every way except 2 things. 1, the low E buzzes a lot on the fret board, but you can't hear it at all on the amp. 2, I guess this guitar is more a stand and play type guitar but, when sit to play it often slides off my leg while playing, specially in solo. But I guess that's just CU's of the explorer type body style. My only 2 gripes on this machine. Great guitar! I have also heard a lot of people complain about the pick ups and changing them out when they get them. I think they sound fine but it definitely deserves some better pick ups.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

I bought this as a gift for my son. He specifically wanted a Dave Mustaine guitar and after lots of research I found this one. He loves it. I don't play the guitar but I love the way it sounds when he plays it. It was definitely worth the money. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Paired it with a Line 6 Uber and a Morley Bad Horsie, and it's definitely upsetting the neighbors. You can't beat it for the money.I would recommend this as a perfect entry level guitar.

    Incredibly Versatile Instrument

    By Michael Wells

    from Lexington, KY

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

I already own a Dean Custom 350 Floyd and needed a non-Floyd guitar for different tunings when the time comes. I had purchased an Ibanez Artist 500 EMG, and it sounded great and was built great; but the neck was very thick and hard to play. So I got rid of the Ibanez and bought the Mustaine Zero AOD2 and WOW. First the neck is incredible. This is the first "D" shaped neck I have played and it is Mustaine speced and very thin and playable. The neck thru body design gives great access to the 23rd and 24th fret. Now where I was really surprised, the sound! First, the stock DMT pickups sound great, I thought I might have to replace them, no need. Unlike most "factory" passive pickups that don't have a large difference in tone from front pickup to back pickup, this one does. The front pickup can be very smooth and creamy and the back pickup can flat out roar. But the most impressive thing is that even though the guitar looks metal, it cleans up great!! I have played it thru my two amps (Marshall Valvestate 2000 12AX7 and an Acoustic Lead Series 20G), one a hybrid with tubes and one solid state. It sounds great without pedals on either amp and gets as much distortion and gain as you want without the need of pedals. The string thru body also brings in a ton of sustain. Lastly, the volume controls are backwards. The front control works the back pickup and the back control works the front pickup. This is not a flaw or a problem needing fixed, this is how Dave has his own volume controls on his own guitars. I had to call Dean to find out. They decided to keep that unique feature on the model to keep it as true as they could to Dave's axe. At this price point you will not find a better guitar for playing anything from metal, rock, blues and whatever you wish.

    Incredible tone, action and playability

    By Michael Wells

    from Lexington, KY

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

Let me preface this review by stating that I am disabled and get seizures and shakes a lot, making playing rather difficult. I had an Ibanez Artist 500 EMG that I loved the sound of, but the neck was way to thick for me to get up and down on easily. Chord changes were horrible. I did love the EMGs, especially the 60 in the bridge, it was smooth as melted butter. I purchased this guitar based on your reviews about this neck alone. Well when I plugged it and started to play three things stood out to me. First, the Mustaine spec "D" shape neck is very flat and playable for me with my limitations. Second was the tone!! Incredible tone. The DMT humbuckers (which are made in the USA) are awesome. I thought I would have to switch them out with some EMGs or Dimarzios; no way. The problem I have found with most passive pickups is that that there is not a "big" difference from the bridge to the neck pickup, there is on this Mustaine and the tone is unreal!! Lastly the action is low and superb. The only thing I would change on this magnificent beast would be to add a hard tail option and maybe some transparent options with a maple top; but those are very minor. This is one bad looking axe!! The artwork that Mustaine has commissioned is incredible and the chrome pickup covers just finish off the look perfectly. If you can still get this for $399, do it!! I paid a lot more for mine and it was well worth it.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

This is my second Dean, to go along with my Custom 350 Floyd. I replaced an Ibanez Artist 500 EMG, with this Dave Mustaine Sig AOD2. My main purpose was the neck. The neck on the Ibanez was fat and hard to get up and down. The neck on the Dean AOD2 is my first "D" shaped neck, and it is great! I don't know if it is the Mustaine Spec on the neck or just the "D" shape, but it rocks. I was worried about the factory DMT pickups vs. the EMG 60/81 combo, I really loved the creamy sound out of the 60 in the neck. These pickups are excellent. Plenty of gain and sustain, but still clean up very well. Most passive pickups don't have a huge difference between the neck and the bridge pickup like actives, these do. No need to replace pickups for my use. I'm playing it thru a Marshall Valvestate 2000 with a 12AX7 preamp. So I can't say what it would do thru a straight solid state amp. I will be getting a small solid state practice amp soon and will up date this review.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

This guitar is about what you would expect in this price range. I was happy with the finish. The playability is good, and the electronics worked good. The only issues we had were an open fifth string buzz at the nut, and one volume pot was almost falling out the back, because the nut was barely on. You would think the quality control at Dean would catch this stuff. We tightened the nut and it worked fine. The 5th string buzz may need a better nut or for now a piece of paper under the string. My son really likes the guitar, and that's what matters. It's a good foreign made guitar for the price.

Great Guitar / 1 Major Problem though

      By Wes Turner

      from Marrero, Louisiana

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for the price, especially if you a big Dave Mustaine fan. I have one complaint though, it is probably only my guitar though, mine has extremely bad fret buzz all over the fret board in random places. Im going to have to try to fix that soon though. Other than that no complaints. Favorite thing about this guitar is the neck most have guitars with big fat necks, so this thin neck feels so great for me.

      Truly excellent guitar!

      By Dustin Sharp _

      from Fort Worth, TX

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

I was able to get this guitar at an excellent price, and it was well worth it! Out of the box the action is very nice and low, and it can go lower still. It's surprisingly light, yet very solid feeling, the sustain is amazing! The signature Mustaine neck is nice and thin, perfect for shredding, especially for those us with stumpy fingers. I bought the guitar with the idea of replacing the pick ups with Mustaine's signature Livewires, but after playing it I'm not sure I want to, the pick ups have great tone, and seem to have plenty of output on their own. It is one of 5 guitars I own(Fender strat, Epiphone SG, Jackson V, Ibanez Jem(knockoff), and it's quickly becoming my favorite player, just feels so natural moving up and down the neck.

      Best guitar I've ever owned!

      By Trevor Lane

      from Colorado Springs, CO

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine ZERO Angel of Deth II Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar after a 5 year hiatus from playing. I had previously played guitar for about 15 years and had generally played Jackson and Epiphone Flying V & Explorer variations in the same price range as this guitar. The reason I gravitated toward the Mustaine model, besides being a huge Megadeth fan, is that Dave actually uses the Korean models which means they must be made well. After hitting the first power chord and botched scale run, I knew this guitar was the best sounding and feeling instrument I've ever owned.
