This guitar is just phenomenal. I was guitar hunting for a very long time to find that perfect guitar. I wanted to step up and get a guitar that I wouldn't need to replace. I was doubtful, but when I picked this guitar up and played it, I was in awe. I have tried countless other guitars, and I just fell in love with this guitar the moment I played it. It killed other guitars priced much higher than it in sound, feel, even the way it looks. This guitar has gained a permanent place in my collection.

First - don't ignore the negative comments like I did. I always liked the look of a V shaped guitar, but looks can be deceiving. It arrived in tune and ready to play. After watching all the available you tube videos the problem is if you don't know what they are playing through you end up with disappointment. I play through a Mesa Mark V and based on the physical make up of the guitar, ie Mahogany body, maple top, rosewood fingerboard I figured I could not go wrong. While it sounded OK, it did not blow me away as others have commented. I did not want to chance keeping it and swapping out the pickups to then have a much bigger disappointment. The guitar also kept sliding down neck first when standing, which was aggrivating. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE DEAN'S CASE. As others have indicated it will not fit into a standard fender sized case. The play at the first two frets sounded off to me (sharp / flat) and required too much effort to play in tune. The upper fret access was great, which is what I was looking for as well. The look of the guitar is fantastic, and it is much lighter than it looks ( lighter than my Les Paul ). In the end it just was not for me. Not a bad guitar, just not for me.

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

I love this guitar! it feels comfortable to play and sounds great. this guitar fits my style of playing well, I do a lot of fast finger work bending and lift offs, blending them into chords ( metal and blues), cranking on the whammy bar and really abusing the strings. After all that the strings stay in tune, maybe the G is out. it also has a great clean tone for strumming and it feels light and balanced after long periods of playing.

Beautiful guitar, didn't find any cosmetic flaws, had frets low frets around the 12th, filed, dressed & polished, plays great after setting up.

Just got this guitar today and I love it.I had read some comments about the Floyd Rose being bad and going out of tune so I was concerned when I ordered it but mine was absolutly fine and stays in tune like a champ.I feel that the craftsmanship far excedes the price…Any Dean fan would love this axe!

Awesome exect for...

By Andrea Thomas

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

Overall this is a sweet guitar. the size of the neck and fretboard is great for soloing and even rythem. even down at the 20-22nd frets you have a good ammount of room. much more than a Les Paul, not as much as a SG/V. The only downsides to this guitar is that 1. its very bulky. if you buy the hardshall case with it the things a boat. Im not even joking ive had to do 3-point turns with the thing to turn around before. You have to sit a certain way with it too. im not complaining this is just something you should know before you buy it. 2. the pickups are ok. Their pretty ok for stock pickups but i would replace them in time. maybe with EMGs or Dimarzios. The bridge is a little weak sounding in my opinion. not alot of drive to it. But a 81 ot a super distortion would fix that nicely. other than that though its a great guitar. mine is gloss black and i love how on this dean they painted the whole neck and the back of the headstock. its a sweet looking guitar. o and one more thing. DONT GET THIS IF YOU DONT ALREADY HAVE A GOOD HARDTAIL/TREMOLO GUITAR. the floyd is great but unless you get a tremblocker say good bye to alternate tunings. trust me if you play metal (which you most likely do with this guitar) you will want to drop tune eventually if you dont already. So make sure you have a good Les Paul, SG, Strat, whatever before you get the floyd.

War Machine

By Mike Nelson

from Eugene Or

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

Off the rack, this guitar is quite well worth the asking price. Plays fast & easy, sounds great, feels very comfortable even though the materials would seem to make it uncomfortably heavy. I bought mine in satin black, then had one of our band sponsors airbrush some sick custom art for me, then had EMG 81/85 installed along with an 18v mod. War is what it's made for. Without having the high quality stock guitar to start with, it would be nice to look at while hanging on the studio wall because I wouldn't play it...simple as that. I have put this guitar through extreme temperature changes, doused it in stage blood, and maybe next I will chop some wood with it. I also own an American Washburn Dime with the exact same setup that cost me a lot more than I have into this Dean & there may be a few subtle differences, but very few players could tell. I do recommend getting a professional setup done 1st thing, as I always do with any new guitar, then spend some time finding out what this thing is capable of..

Beautiful!

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

I also had a case ordered with the guitar and they shipped together but in seperate boxes. I was skeptical about this guitar because I had never played one, but I went for it! It came out of the box perfectly set-up and tuned. Plugged it in and started shredding instantly. I had to adjust the pickups since they were very low, and after a bit of fine tuning it's been one of the best guitars I've ever owned (this makes it guitar #9 for me). And of all my axes (gibson/fender/ibanez) this one might be my favorite now. If you're on the fence I'd say go for it! I'm VERY impressed!
The '79 ML has pretty basic features, but has a lot to work with.
Extremely well made and durable!
For the price it's amazing!

Looks great, but...

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

Pros to this guitar: Has an amazing finish, construction and durability seem pretty well, has nice features for the pricepoint, and stays in tune. Cons to this guitar: The pickups are probably the worst I've ever heard, the guitar is absolutely huge, and due to the radical shape you have to buy a case that is made by dean or for this product, and to add to the bad sound of the pickups, it sounds really bad unplugged too. If i were to give you a general idea of the sound through a review, I would say incredibly boxy, in a very muddy way. So if you do decide to buy this guitar, you'll probably have to change the pickups. This guitar isn't really my cup of tea, and I'm selling it. But with a pickup swap, and if your style suits this type of guitar, then maybe you'll like it. It plays fine, and its got great upper fret access, so what I'm saying is try before you buy.
