  • Pros and cons.

As reviewed by Brian Roberts on 7/12/2011

I've had this guitar for 3 years now and it has served me well. To start off here are some pros and cons. The Grover tuners keep it in tune very well, the neck is great for shredding, the body is unique, the tune-o-matic bridge is just fine. The pick-ups nothing special. The cons; this guitar is very heavy due to its body shape. After having this guitar for a year the input jack started cutting out and I had to fix it with my soldering gun, then after having it for over two years the neck pick-up just quit working (it works off and on but 90% of the time it doesn't work.) There have also been other small problems that I have yet to find the source. Other than that I love this guitar and I highly recommend it to the hard rock/ heavy metal person who is on a budget.

  • New Favorite

As reviewed by Thomas Mason on 7/19/2011

This guitar is quickly becoming a new favorite. It is great for any metal or thrash fan. I was in the market for an explorer shaped guitar, but did not have the money for an Epiphone or Gibson. I saw that Dave Mustaine had started playing one and his sounded great. I knew I had to get one then. The tone is amazing to say the least. I have had a Dean ML and it had an okay tone. The shape of the body really gives this guitar a great tone. The pick-ups sound great through my 15 watt Fender amp. I took the guitar to my dad?s and played through his stereo system with a Boss distortion pedal and the sound was so good that my dad decided that he needed to get one soon. As far as clean tone, I mainly wanted an explorer because James Hetfeild plays an explorer shape. The clean tone sounds just like a track from Master Of Puppets or ?And Justice For All.

  • what are you waiting for, just buy it!!!

As reviewed by WAYNE WILCOX on 1/23/2013

I have been obsessed with this guitar design for several years now. I chose the Dean for several reasons. First was cost. Times are kinda tuff, so I had to be realistic. I don't play in a band or make a living through music, but I wanted the look, feel, sound and reliability on a budget. Enter the Dean ZX. The look of this guitar was purely stunning. Mine is actually a darker grain than the stock photos here. This guitar is solid as a rock, but is comfortable to play. The fixed bridge sits perfect for pick hand muting, and for faster, more precise playing. I have two other guitars with Floyds and I can never seem to rest my right hand in a good spot. Thought I might be disappointed with the stock p-ups, I was wrong!! This guitar has great tone right out of the box, and was set up well. Over-all I could not be happier with this guitar. Aggressive look, plays and sounds great at a price that won't break the bank. Highly recommend this to a new or intermediate player.
