  • Great deal, great guitar

As reviewed by David Arena on 11/11/2011

I am a beginner again after not playing a lick for years. This is this the third guitar I have owned. I had bad luck with my other two guitars, but those are stories for another time and place. Anyway, I wanted a decent (new) guitar, for a good price. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a hobby. After careful consideration, and reading tons of reviews on this guitar, the Ibanez Jam Pack, and the Epiphone, and others, I chose the Dean. I have to say, I think I made a smart purchase. I have been around professional musicians and expensive guitars, and I know how they should sound. This guitar sounds and plays great. The action is perfect. The finish is simple, but beautiful. For the money, you would be hard pressed to find an equal. One other thing that sold me on the Dean is that though the guitar was made in Korea,(much better than China) as many of the less expensive ones are, Dean is an American company, based out of Tampa. Also, like others have said, the little amp that came with it kicks. It's loud and crystal clear. If you want distortion, you'll need a pedal. The only draw backs I would say are the strings were garbage. They were already discolored, most likely from being on the guitar for a while. I replaced them after two days. While I had the strings off I applied some lemon oil to the fret board and saddle to clean and moisten the wood. They were pretty dry. That's a good recommendation when you change strings anyway. You don't want the wood to crack. Also, I was shocked that no picks came with the guitar. That was annoying because I wanted to pick it as soon as I got it, but had to wait until I could run out and buy some picks. Guitar center was great. The order form said 5-8 days delivery, I got it in 3. The whole purchase process was hassle free. I will be ordering more from GC in the future.
