  • Great Guitar for Beginners

As reviewed by MomthatRocks on 9/20/2006

If your just starting out this is a great guitar for the price. It has decent sound and looks cool. I bought it for my teen daughter and she loves it. It is easy to learn on. Rule of thumb is, you get what you pay for. In this case it is worth it.

  • Very happy with this guitar

As reviewed by Newbie on 5/19/2009

It's amazing to think you'd get this much for such a reasonable price. I've owned my Dean AK48 for only two months now, but so far this seems to be a well made guitar for it's class. Perhaps this company feels they have to go the extra mile to compete with the bigger names in terms of quality. One of the most noteworthy aspects is that I virtually never have to tune this guitar, and I play it every day. It stays in tune better than my friends' expensive guitars. Although aesthetics are subjective and not as significant as sound and playability, to me this is the best looking guitar in it's class. Dean guitars emphasize the rocker look, which I like. That counts, because as a beginner you want every incentive to pick up the guitar and play it. Regarding the more important aspect of playability, this has as good a 'feel' as some of the more expensive guitars I've tried. My only slight knock is that the guitar has good (not great) sound. It sounds fine for it's price range, but my more experienced friends describe it as 'bassy' - better sounding on low tones than high. I also had a veteran player 'set up' the guitar for me, because the action was a bit too high at first. The other improvement was to replace the factory strings with higher quality D'Addarios, which seems to have made a difference. Even considering these imperfections, I didn't have the heart to bring my rating down to four stars because I just enjoy playing this thing too much. And relative to price, this is a five star guitar for sure. That they throw in a hard shell case just sweetens the deal.

  • Its good, I like it!

As reviewed by Chad on 7/23/2008

Ive been playing the guitar since I was twelve and this is the only acoustic ive owned, put some good strings on it and it will sound great, keeps tune well, great for passing around between friends at a party or get together or just practicing scales at home, just a beautiful decent sounding guitar that can take a beating, for a very reasonable price...
