For the price, you get a great deal on this one. The instrument itself is made very well (Dean, duh) and sounds amazing for many musical styles. Acoustically, this mandolin can project fairly clearly and loudly with some practice and getting to know the instrument. Contrary to what I had thought, it sounds VERY good when run through a clean amp. You still get that folk-music feel. All around I've been very pleased with my purchase of this instrument, and I'd recommend it for players ranging from novice to regularly intermediate. Light on the pockets, but sounds like a wallet-buster. (One note [obviously]: get new strings. THAT'S when you'll be impressed).
