Bass Bass Bass!!!

What I like about this little stick is that I can sit in front of my computer/speakers and play songs on Real Player or Windows Media Player without having hook up a bulky amp. Then, when I get ready to gig, I can grab my "P" Bass and go to work with plenty of practice under my belt. The tone is great for what I am doing in my practice sessions. The neck and body are great to work with, as well. In general a great little bass to play around with. Haven't even plugged it in yet, much less tried to use it on a gig, so I don't know how it would sound through an amp.

GREAT BASS FOR THE PRICE

This bass is really built well and is great for just playing around. You just cant beat the price of this instrument. Its great to just pick up and play around with when you dont feel like plugging into an amp.

Great AB for the Price

The Dean Playmate is an exceptionally reasonably priced acoustic electric bass that is an excellent starter bass for those making a transition from electric. The playability of this instrument is outstanding, due particulalry to the thin neck and the long neck. The acoustic tone is decent....not great...but passable in most instances. As an electric this bass is a bit weak....but then that's what solidbodies are for, right. Overall, as a first time ab, this is a good buy. For those use to a high end instrument, this is probably not for you.

If you're undecided, just go for it!

If you're thinking this bass might be a toy, think again. Yes, it's really inexpensive, made in China and mine has some minor issues with the finish, but it plays great and sounds boomy and bright. I am very pleasantly surprised. The GC site pix don't show the control panel, which is simple and unobtrusive with one slider each for volume and tone. Mine has only one strap button (at the bridge end of the body), but I always play sitting down anyway. I'm glad I chose a model *without* a cutaway, as the body balances well on my left thigh fulcrum. Very lightweight instrument, yet it feels sturdy. If minor blemishes are likely to bother you, the natural might be a better choice than the black finish that I went with (although the black does look sharp 8^) The flaws are minor and no worse than the instrument will have after a a few months if being gently knocked against the furniture, etc. I wish I had bought this a couple of months ago when I first noticed it on GC.com.
