I wanted a pickup where I could slide it in & out of the sound-hole on my 86' Alvarez' Yairi & not have to drill or modify anything & I didn't want a bridge pickup. Overall it sounds pretty darn good, I'm sure there are some more expensive out there that might sound better, but for me It worked out just fine on a Crate taos dsp acoustic amp & my Peavey Classic 50 4-10 tube. Occasionally I get a little bit of weird noise or feedback through my tube amp on lead channel, but it's not that bad & that's to be expected & I am not a stage/studio pro anyways, so who cares for $50. Its also very similar to the Seymour Duncan & others similar "woody's" in this price range.

I put this on an old Yamaha that has great sound, and fed through the 'clean' channel of a small Fender tube amp it soundedreally fine. It had a clear sparkling tone and well balanced bass. What it lacked was output-it forced me to turn up the volume to 5 plus just to get a good match with the acoustic. That and not having a volume or kill switch caused me to return it and get a DiMarzio instead.

Ok. Easy to put on and remove. Won't fit classical guitar sound hole. Probably wouldn't work on nylon strings anyway. Otherwise not bad

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I use it on my '78 Washburn and it sounds real nice plugged into my Fender Amp. But I have to turn the volume up quite a bit and then the mic is too loud. If it had a volume control of it own I would rate it higher. Also like many of the reviews I've read it was missing the holder that is supposed to hook to a strap button.

This pickup is great. It has great sound and is very easy to use. The package came with the leather holder missing. I contacted customer service and they responded the same day. They not only sent me a replacement but a spare also.

Product is shown with a 1/4" female end that clips onto the strap button. The one that was shipped to me was missing that piece. That was the main reason that I bought this pick-up for. Oh well.

      • Lead melody parts, where other inputs can be low

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

Very low output compared to the bass guitar and 2 keyboards being lined in. Ended up lowering overall output, maxing gain on my channel and lowering every other input to balance it out. All else aside, has a very nice sound and is great at picking out overtones and harmonies that I wouldn't have expected it to have picked up on with the microtonal scaling.

Very simple to install. Compact. Easy to switch from one guitar to another. Sounded really good on my 12-string. Worked great on my back-packer, too.

        Great But Soft Sound

        By Garrett Bicknell

        from Greeley, CO

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

This pickup sounds amazing with great mids and lows but it only has one drawback which is that it happens to be a very quiet pickup. Even though it is super quiet it can get rid of undesired finger or picking sounds because its so quiet, so being that it is quiet it has its advantages and disadvantages. I definitely would recommend this product to other acoustic guitarists who don't want to drill holes in their guitars for some other pickup that costs twice as much. This is hands down an awesome pickup for the money.

        Plug-In and Play

        By Isaiah Dominguez

        from Bellingham, Washington

Comments about Dean Markley ProMag Plus XM Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

It's hard to find a single coil plug-in and play pickup on a fairly tight budget. As a touring musician my funds are tighter than ever and for the price this Dean Markley pickup doesn't really have any competitor. I play it through my Ovation acoustic and though the output levels are quieter than I would like, the tones are round and warm which (are far as acoustics go) is the perfect fit for me! I would recommend this to anyone who is in love with the acoustic they have but want a cheap way to amplify it without changing too much of the natural sound.
