"We've survived 25 years now," Jerry Only reflects. "Maybe 50 years from now, people will still be playing our albums . . . because we don't water down what we do. Our goal is to keep perspective on who we are and where we're going.
"When we started playing out again, we were surprised to see how many fans both young and old, still go nuts for the Misfits. It shows that we have a very strong following and we can still stay true to ourselves and grow as a band.
"My weapon of choice is a custom Misfits Devastator Bass, strung with the crunchiest strands of steel ever produced -- Markley's. I designed and built my bass personally and it's no mistake that there are no volume or tone controls. You can't shut it off. I keep it hot-wired, up all the way -- all the time. That's my sound. Loud! When I'm there, you'll know it.
"When it comes to Strings, we use only the best . . . and that's Dean Markley strings! Dean feels the same way about his strings as we do about our music . . . make the very best you can make and people will always come back for more."

I'm a rather active musician, and started my love affair with the bass when I was 14. Now 21 years later, I get the opportunity to play with some of the best musicians I've ever known of all styles and genre. I discovered the Skullbusters a few years ago, and I haven't looked back. I can literally play everything and everywhere with these strings and not have to worry about breaking them, going out of tune, or getting flat. I have three main basses, my Washburn with the new EMG MMTW twin active MM pickup, my Jazz Bass, which is pretty stock, and my 1963 Univox semi-hollow with all origional setup. They are all strung up with the Skullbusters. These strings last me about 2-3 months, and thats with regular gigging, where other strings, and believe me, I've tried a mess of them over the years, only last me maybe 3-6 weeks. I'd imagine the Skullbusters would last twice as long if I wasn't playing every day. I'm a real picky person when it comes to my tone, always have been, and if my bass doesn't sound bright and round with a good punch, I'm not a happy camper. Skullbusters keep me happy. I hope they never stop making them.
Despite what I have heard about them. I'll tell you right now they are durable as hell, They are strong, and just all around a good set of strings, I put a set on at least 5 years ago they still sounds great, and I do not see any weakness. Jerry Only had to of made a deal with the devil to get them out there, because they are great. If there is a problem with them its this. They are hard as hell to find. Most stores don't hold them and the ones that do are few and far between if you play punk they are a must at least to try out and for the price they are well worth it. In my opinion when you find them get them.
ok ok at first i thought these would sound bad but i put they on an WOO they took me for a ride. They have a nice Punky Metal Crunch to them and If you play Punk or Horror Punk you need These they Do have they limits though.
Okay so as a Misfits fan since I was fourteen I naturally had to buy these strings I always liked J.O. and I took his word for it. The strings are great. Really crunchy and they feel great on my fingers (I don't use a pick). I didn't really expect them to be as good as they are and they were easy to change out and tune. I had them changed out and tuned in about 10 minutes. I can not lie Jerry did me a solid and I think if you like this type of music then you will be happy with the performance of them. you can play anything on them and it sounds good. I've played everything from three days grace to nikka costa to them misfits and even Eminem's Stan and all the songs sounded great try them they won't disappoint.
If I had one word to describe these strings I would have to say BITE. they do not chime with bell like overtones, instead they bite in and growl. the green silk winding is a nice touch. these are good strings overall and i would recomend them to any bassist wanting tone with attitude.
i have been playing rock bass for 27 years and someone told me about these sstrings and i tried them they suck ! while on stage the d string broke ! so i went to my other fender and i could not get the d string in tune so i DONT recommend these strings to bass players who make a living playing bass .. i went home and pulled them off 3 of my fender bass's and threw them out ..
Well the price wasnt bad for these strings. But when i got home and tried to put them ony my bass the D string wouldnt tune properly. although as it started to acually reach the D note the sting was getting extrmely tight. So as soon ans my tuner registered a D on the scale the sting broke. Luckily the winding held the string together so it didnt snap and fly for anyones eyes or anything like that. How ever the rest of the strings have no problems and still play great. I happen to have the old D string on with the new ones. They have great crisp sound with lots of crunch. So over all if you can get them to work I Highly recomend them.
BEST STRINGS OUT THERE(PERIOD!) They last forever and can take a sweet hard beating. I play my bass maybe 5-8 hours a day no lie. And Ive had this set of strings for about 3 months now and they feel and sound brand new. You can still feel the sticky, smooth cruncyness then you rub them. And the sound is just to good to be real. Jerry only must have made a deal with the devil for these. The sound is just as good as the feel. You wont be upset at all. Plus the green string that is at the tips makes your bass have nice character. Get them if you dont like them I'll give you money back in sadness that I was wrong hahaha. Its worth the 20 clams.
These strings are the best out there. They have a great value and they last for a long time. They have a awesome tone and sound cru nchy, perfect for punk or metal. These strings are worth money, and you won't be let down!
