Just recently tried these out, switching from another company that had a good aesthetic. Within 5 minutes of tuning up and plugging in, I had found a winner.
These are my favorite strings, that I ever used.I have been using Blue steel since the late eighties when they first came out. They have a bright top end and a tight bottom end.I put EMG pickups in my Marcus jazz bass, and these sound the best with them.Very long lasting strings that stay in tune great.
I bought these strings on a wimm. Was at Guitar Center and they were on sale. Living on a budget (as a musician we most all live for a bargain on musical equiptment) so I bought a pack of the Blue Steel 2674. WOW I was immediatly impressed of the punch these babies put out. So then I went back and bought the rest they had on the sale rack. The Lows are the best Ive ever had and the strings are balanced From the E to the G string. These Babies are just plain Full,Fat,clean, and clear that I have not experienced in a long time. The 80's I used Roto Sounds, The ninety's were D'Addarios the 2000's till now were Elixer nanos, D'Addarios, and some Slinky's. Now until arthritus sets in it will be Blue Steels till the end. They are just plain and simple the Best Bass strings out there for the same price as others. Kids If you are using those Chinese made amps do yourself some flavor(Favor) and add some tone to your rig. Instead of shelling out big bucks for a pedal try $20 bucks and add some Thump and Tone.
In my 30+ years of playing I think I've tried just about every string on the market. Strings are no different than bass or amp , It really comes down to what works best for the sound you want. That being said these are a really good all -around string that have a good life span. Good highs not brittle, tight lows no mud. I've seen some reviews saying they're rough or sticky ,that may be true right out of the box ,but after a few hours of playing they don't feel any different than any other steel string to me.I get 4-6 months from a set playing 4 times a week . I play finger style & with a pick some times, I'm not really a slapper but Les Claypool uses these so they must do that well also.
I've used the Blue Steel Med. Light gauge ever since Dean Markley first introduced the line 20 years ago. I've tried/used others in that time as well but I always come back to these. They have a great versatility - I play everything from "old" country to harder rock and these have transcended through each genre very well. When times were lean, I've had a set on my bass as long as a year while still holding their tone (I am absolutely serious - yes, I've used string cleaner during that time but the strings just held up throughout that time frame). I have a Yamaha Motion II bass so it is a medium scale, which is hard to find strings in that scale. As a 30 plus year bass player, trust me - get these strings & you won't regret it!!
I went out and purchased these strings today and after i strung them up i was amazed with the sound, great and thick with tons of low end. These strings are possibly the best i've ever played. They are perfect for rock and metal but I also found them to sound great for others like jazz, blues, etc. they really nail the Alice In Chains type sound that I was hoping to achieve. The only thing that i have against them is that they are a little dry but any string spray like Finger Ease took care of that immediately. All in all 5/5.
I fairly recently built a bass from a kit. I was pretty happy with it but the sound was muddy. The strings that came with the kit weren't marked (same with the pickups) so I decided to try new strings. These were recommended by an employee. It put them on and could hear a difference before I even plugged the bass in. These strings are great. They don't tear up my fingers (also helped by string lube). The sustain is unbelievable. The harmonics are bright. They even respond really well to tapping. These made me love my bass even more. XD
