These babies are genuine, blues guitar strings. Note for note, these things scream the highs, and bellow the lows. When you feel like playing some SRV or Jimi Hendrix, these strings do the job. They are rich in tone, and stay rich for a long period of time. Just make sure your bridge is set up for regular strings. ( I put them on my squier strat, and the bridge about snapped off.) But, regardless, these are amazing strings, much better than, ernie balls, fender bullets, and the like. Go Dean Markely Blue Steel!

I thought I'de give these strings a try because I've heard good things about them but they aren't my thing. After I stringed my guitar up and the strings would stay in tune I played around with them a bit and although they're good for some things they aren't my style.. I usually use D'Addario Pro Steels (10-46) and those have a very very bright tone with great flexibility because they're pure steel as well as the gauge.. These strings are actually nickel plated steel which provides a little bit warmer of a tone as well as slightly more tension. I do like how harmonics come out with these strings, they're very bold and louder than most strings but like I said these strings aren't what I prefer. Im not saying these are bad strings, in fact they are really good.. Just not my thing, so give em a shot and see what you think.

Very good solid utility strings

By Gary Mayer

from Stone Ridge, NY

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

That's how I'd describe the Blue Steels...Very good solid utility strings. I'm happy with the sound, they're easy on the fingers after a long gig and they do seem to have a slightly longer life than most other 10 gauge strings that I've used. I do have a big issue with the packaging though: While it's commendable that Dean Markley is trying to be environmentally friendly, their "Eco-packaging" makes finding the correct string a bit difficult when I'm re-stringing in a rush (which is all the time). I know these strings are available in "regular" packaging so in the future I'm going to buy these in store so as to make sure I get my preferred package. Sure it's a small issue but when stringing is part of a long list of Pre-show tasks, fumbling around for the correct string is pretty frustrating.

Great tone balance

By Jacob Parks

from Mt. Sterling, KY

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

I have an Ibanez ART and have tried almost every string out there, then settled on Elixers. I play country, country rock, rock, and older metal. I bought a set of Blue Steels and I am impressed. The tonal balance of these strings are great for all types of music. Sustain is great! Stretch/break in time was minutes. String bending was a little tighter then with other strings I have tried, but barely noticeable. If you only play one type of music, there are strings better suited for that style, but if you play everything as I do, I don't think you'll find a better set of strings. I also thought the price was a misprint. 5 bucks? They will be on my guitar from now on.

The BEST Strings

By Charles Kendall

from Muskegon, MI

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

Dean Markley Blue Steel Strings are simply the best strings for the money. The tonal quality is superb! You can bend for days without worry. My local Guitar Center never seems to have these in stock, nor does most of the other local musical instrument stores. I recommend these strings for any style of guitar and for any style of music. I play a wide range of music from Country to Heavy Metal, they are awesome and hold up extremely well. These strings minimize the amount of tuning needed throughout a night of playing. Keep up the great work Dean Markley!

Best Strings I've ever used!

By Adam S.

from Minnesota

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

AS the title says, I love these strings. There where my first and probably will be my last. They aren't like other strings. I play these at least half an hour a day and I change only after 6 months give or take. I've only had two break. One was because I was strumming too hard and the other because I was bending like no tomorrow. If you're thinking about buying them, go out and buy them. Buy dozens, you won't be able to get enough.

Have to Break them In

By Matthew

from Vineland, NJ

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

When these came in the mail, I put them on immediately. I started playing and was immediately disappointed. The pitch was right and the strings were definitely louder, but the sound seemed hollow, almost unmusical. After a week, they were broken in and sounded great. It just takes a bit of time.

I'm a Blue Steel guy now!

By Brandon

from Lakeville, MN

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings are just awesome. Before these, I used Ernie Ball Regulars for a while. I then switched to D'Addario (mostly 9's) and those were good and all... I liked the flexibility of the D'Addarios. Ernie Balls sound pretty good... But when put on a set of Blue Steels, my tone INSTANTLY improved! All of a sudden I was getting much more bite and growl on the low end. Not to mention the tuning stablitity improved greatly, even for a floyd rose bridge. I didn't realize how often i was tuning until now. But I highly recommend these strings especially for you blues artists out there! Great stuff!

Great Guitar Strings

By Eddie V. aka Flood

from Brooklyn, New York

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

I just replaced the original strings on my gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus after noticing my third string was hitting the frets even though the string was in tune. I started practicing on my guitar and I notice the sound comes out good. Shredding slowly up and down on the E string seems to be easy and I ended up picking up some speed. I started shredding a bit faster with less mistakes than before. It even sounds good with the reverb delay distortion sound whenever I am playing the Star Spangle Banner. Also, the clean setting sounded good when I am playing the Blues progression. I would recommend this to a friend.

Still my favorites

By Barackin' In The Free World

from Bellingham, WA

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been using Blue Steel's since the early 90's, and while I still give other strings a chance now and then, nothing ever feels quite the same. From Blues to Black Metal, these strings are the best.

not good for frets

By zachpw91

from Cleveland OH

Comments about Dean Markley 2556 Blue Steel Gauge Electric Guitar Strings:

you will see wear on your frets immediately when using any kind of steel string, so just don't use steel and increase the lifetime of your frets.
