Sound quality, tunability, durability, and value make Dean Markley Blue Steel Cryogenic bass strings the best. I don't know the physics behind the freezing process changing the molecular structure of steel, but I do know that these strings have great tone and sustain. They also hold their tune and tone longer than any other string I have used. For the price, all this makes them the best value in bass strings. I like the medium lights for the greater flexibility of the lower two for the deep low bottom. The stiffness of the top two gives me more treble. Put a set on your ax and tell me I'm wrong! I am sold.
I went out and purchased these strings today and after i strung them up i was amazed with the sound, great and thick with tons of low end. These strings are possibly the best i've ever played. They are perfect for rock and metal but I also found them to sound great for others like jazz, blues, etc. they really nail the Alice In Chains type sound that I was hoping to achieve. The only thing that i have against them is that they are a little dry but any string spray like Finger Ease took care of that immediately. All in all 5/5.
I fairly recently built a bass from a kit. I was pretty happy with it but the sound was muddy. The strings that came with the kit weren't marked (same with the pickups) so I decided to try new strings. These were recommended by an employee. It put them on and could hear a difference before I even plugged the bass in. These strings are great. They don't tear up my fingers (also helped by string lube). The sustain is unbelievable. The harmonics are bright. They even respond really well to tapping. These made me love my bass even more. XD
