  • Whoa... I was... surprised.

As reviewed by Joeseph on 6/12/2011

For the price tag you are going to be VERY satisfied. I remember hearing about the Hillsboro in 2010, and I've wanted one since. But that was a time when I was just getting into bass. Since then I've bought two other Dean basses and tried out a couple other brands that I was content but now satisfied with. This particular bass is still wowing me. The neck is thin and long at the appropriate areas, being I like to play around a lot on my 7 to 12 i was thoroughly surprised when I realized the stretch was a slight bit smaller and then neck was thinner than my old bass. The rounder neck at the 7 back up to the 1 really makes rolling up and down the neck such a breeze. And straight out the box I noticed how smooth the neck felt without what I think was referred to as fret guards. Overall this bass is built to be damned playable. Meanwhile the active humbucker pickups... phenomenal. Oh goodness I was blown away. The thick punch on the lows and smooth tone on my mids and highs really shocked me even with the pickups set to passive, but once I started pushing them to active... It exploded in the best way possible. I ONLY wish I went and saved a little more money and picked up a model with double active humbuckers... theres no telling the feelings I'd be feeling now. I readily suggest this to someone who finally has command over their neck and technique, and wants to upgrade to a bass that will work with them. I wouldn't suggest this for a new player because the power behind it can be misleading. Oh by the way... this thing is sexy as anything. Soooo nice in white.
