• Plays like a $1,200.00 Bass

  Opened the box, pulled it out, liked the glossy black paint job, liked the feel, neck was pretty good for a Korean manufactured bass, fretboard ok, hardware nice. Tuned it up on my BOSS GT10B. I was surprised at how good the factory strings sounded. Most bass guitars I have bought needed a new string set right off. I will probably play this for awhile before I change out the strings. Once tuned I could not put her down. I play 4,5,and 6 string basses so this was no challenge to play. Love the solid feel of this bass! I would put this up against $1,000 to $1,500 8 string basses. It played and sounded alot better than the Schecter 8. Buy it now, you won't be sorry.

• Excellent Bass for A Great Price

  I played this [wonderful] bass at my local GC and it had the best sound out of a $500 8 string bass. Typically, I've seen $2,000 and $7,000 8 string basses that play good, but not as good as the Dean Edge 8. If your looking for your first 8 string bass, get this one. It is well worth the money.

• Good Specialty Bass at a Great Price

  Pros: Awesome satin-finished neck with a familiar wide/shallow profile, good basic electronics and hardware, not too heavy, well built for a Korean-made instrument, easy to adapt to 8-strings. Cons: minor Korean-made cosmetic flaws, black only color option. After playing this bass for two weeks, I'm quite impressed with the Dean Edge 8. It has a great neck that is part P-bass, part J-bass. The active electronics worked fine. There is a fair amount of boost and cut in both treble and bass knobs. Center detents were solid. The tone was quite good and could be used with most styles of music. The distinctive chime of the root/octave was addictive. Overall construction was good, but there were some minor flaws (paint swirling) in one area of the paint near the strap button, and the brass nut was tarnished. The truss rod cover didn't fit properly and looked like an afterthought. These are minor complaints that do not affect the performance of this bass. It wasn't hard to play chords and arpeggios. I could reach all the notes up and down the fretboard. Speaking of notes, the strings stayed in tune even when played aggressively. There wasn't much of a learning curve. Once I learned to be deliberate with my pick attack (hitting both strings at once), I felt like I've been playing the 8 for years. It will eat through the picks. I'm more of a fingerstyle player, but it's best to use a pick on the 8. It's not impossible, though, to play fingerstyle. Just some minor hand adjustments are required. If you're looking to add a specialty bass that will help fill sonic space in your band, then this is the bass for you.
