Geat value for a starter bass

This is a great Bass guitar for a beginner, or to use as a backup. This guitar may not be anything spectacular but it gets the job done. The guitar is built well and the finish is very nice. For a budget guitar this one plays very well. The guitar lacks some of the punch that more expensive bass guitars have but then again this guitar only cost a small fraction of the price. I would recommend this guitar for a beginner or as a solid back up.

Dean Edge 09

I got mine here at GC.com for $119.95, and I bought the 'Mahogany' finish. First impression was "Wow! what a good-looking bass!". It really is nice-looking in the 'Mahogany' finish, although it's not Mahogany wood, but a stained light-colored wood with a grain similar to Mahogany. Very solid, and heavy enough for good sustain without being a shoulder-killer. Tone....ehhh...the pickup could be hotter to grab more bottom, and it could have been placed a little better; more toward the bridge, about in the same place as a P-Bass pickup or a tad closer. But with the right EQ on the amp, it sounds pretty good, if a little slow on the attack (again, pickup placement). I find it sounds a lot better played with a pick than fingerstyle. Playability...Right out of the box, it was very nice, but I needed to tweak the setup just a little bit for my taste. The tuners seem good & solid, and work well. The bridge is a simple stamped unit, but has pretty massive saddle-barrels on it. I'm not crazy about the scarf-joint where the angled headstock is grafted in to the neck, because those always seem to introduce a little 'hump' there that the truss rod won't level out, ever. It might use a little fretwork to overcome that and a few slight buzzes here & there, but overall, it plays nice. Fit & Finish...Very nice; everything fits very well, and the satin finish looks really great and doesn't show fingerprints. Overall Impression...Very good quality instrument for the price, and an excellent starter bass or to keep around as a spare/backup. I bought mine so I'd have at least one bass with frets, as I play mostly fretless

Great Finish and Tone

I just bought this to round out my small home studio. I didn't want to spend a lot of cash, since it is just to lay down tracks now and then. Well, I was pleasantry surprised. This bass is a great buy! The picture does not do the satin finish justice. It sounds and plays great...Great neck... And as far as staying in tune I have had no problems. In fact, it was IN tune when I took it out of the box. This is an excellent bass for a beginner, or for someone who just wants to have one around, just in case.

awesome bass

i may just be a beginner, but i think i know when i hear a good bass guitar. i have been playing bass for almost a year now and i bought this as my firts guitar. it has an awesome wood finish and probably has as much quality as a overpriced 500 dollar bass. probaly the only problem i ever have with this bass is that it goes out of tune in a short time(3 or 4 days) but other than that this is probably the best bass for its price.
