  • My Mule

As reviewed by Darren Toth on 9/13/2009

I love this thing. I have to admit, I don't have decades of experience with strings, or any musical instrument for that matter. But 5 months ago, the Dean backwoods 6-string came into my life, and I have had so much fun with it, I have come to love strings and I just can't put them down. I now own an Acoustic, an Electric, a Bass, two Violins, an Autoharp...my point is, the 6-string banjo is a great instrument that reminds everyone, beginner and pro alike, that music is suppose to be fun. And man, is this thing fun. I call it my Mule, not quite a banjo, not a guitar, but it has sparked a love of making music that I never knew I had. Seriously, if you are someone who needs a reminder of how much fun PLAYING with music can be, get this little gitbox. It started a passion that takes up every day of my life.

  • Alot of fun

As reviewed by David on 7/8/2009

Banjitar, Guitjo, 6 string banjo or whatever you want to call it.. I call it a funjo. For the price this is a nice looking and good sounding instrument. The only problem is the action is a little high and I wish there was some instructions on where to put the saddle when setting it up.. Probably a good idea to take it to your local guitar guy and have it set up properly.. But other than that it has a nice loud tone to it. You could easily play this around a bunch of Martins with heavy strings on them outside..

  • second review

As reviewed by Northern Player on 7/1/2010

Here is my second kick at this. I finally got the instrument back from my Luthier. Denis is a great guy. He did try a regular setup but it was pretty much impossible. In the end, he had to pull the neck off and re-set it in order to get the job done. He also had to do a fair bit of work to get the head tightened. In the end, the luthier said the components of the instrument are excellent. The guy who put it together must have been having a bad day because he really messed this one up or he/she simply did not know what he was doing. All of that said, it is now an excellent instrument and it is a whole lot easier to play. The action is very nice and I am enjoying learning to plunk out tunes that now take on a completely different sound with this thing. I still say it was worth the money but it needed a lot of work.
