The company got its start when founder Dean Zelinsky decided to shake up the guitar world with radical new designs. He had built his own guitars since childhood and by the 1970s, he had a hunch that the world was ready for an invigorating new spin on classic electric guitar designs.
Dean guitars quickly gained recognition for their radical shapes and pointed guitar bodies with an iconic V-shaped headstock and winged logo. Later in 2007, the company incorporated their proprietary DMT pickups into some instruments' designs. Their edgy models have always been a hit in the metal and rock scene. However, today Dean's reach extends far into bluegrass and folk, offering gorgeous acoustic guitars in addition to resonator guitars.
The guitars are American-made in Tampa, Florida by master craftsman whose high standards make their way into each guitar—from tonewood selection to final inspection. A testament to their exceptional craftsmanship is the staggeringly long list of musicians who've made Dean guitars and basses their top choice including: "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott to ZZ Top as well as Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Eric Peterson of Testament, Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, Michael Angelo Batio of Nitro, Michael Schenker of UFO and MSG, Rik Emmett of Triumph, Ric Ocasek of The Cars, Rudolf Schenker of Scorpions, C.C. Deville of Poison, Nancy Wilson of Heart, and Zakk Wylde of Ozzy Osborne and Black Label Society.
Today, the Dean lineup includes everything from electric guitars, bass guitars, and acoustic guitars to resonator guitars, mandolins, and banjos.
