these drums are you stereotypical cheap set of drums.I am surprised that guitar center woul even stock these. My father purchased them for me as a kit to keep at his house that way i wouldn't have to transport my ludwig classic maple there every time i stayed with him...i could get the same quality from a $250.00 first act kit at wal mart...don't waste your money
Ok at first glance I was like wow because they had my two favorite colors (black and red). These drums have a nice look to them but they sound REALLY awesome. The drums become even nicer when you add a bass drum and some double bass pedals. The names of the drums are awesome too because each one has its own name. But only thing you need to buy is some zildijan or sabain cymbals and the 4 pack of zildijan goes great with this for me. The only REAL downside for me is the set only comes with one mounted tom. These are REAL nice drums and the price is a true bargain.
I doubt that they will post this review due to the fact that I am going to tell the truth about this kit. It may look good in the pictures but in person it is a really awful looking and made kit that is overpriced and cheaply made. The shells are made of a soft wood and the seams on the wrap are horrible. The hardware is surprisingly good though so I kept the hardware and sold the drum shells. The color is a little more shocking in person, if you buy these you would fit in more playing in clubs that only have men in them if you catch my drift. The 12 X 8 tom sounds like a cheap bongo drum and that huge cave like bass drum would serve better as a tin horn in a ditch. These would be cool to a 14 year old but a serious drummer would not be caught dead playing them. What the hell was I thinking when I bought this junk!
I bought this kit in the tantrum color scheme specifically for practice, but I was so happy with it that I've been using it for gigs instead of my Pearl Export kit. The cannon-like bass drum is especially impressive, but it's hard to find a bag or case that will fit it. The toms really pop when you ditch the factory heads - I've used Remo pinstripes and Evans Hydraulic heads on them, and they really have a great tone. The snare stand didn't go low enough for my liking, so I got another snare stand, and I now use the ddrum snare stand to mount the high tom since I didn't like the stock mounting hardware anyway; it's too far forward on the bass drum, and there's no memory lock. For this price, you can't go wrong.
This is a great set for new players. The set up ( two floor toms and one rack) I feel is far superior than the typical starter kit of two rack toms and one floor. It gives you more options with your cymbals. This kit is also great to have to take with you to a gig or party. Its got a great kick and is easy for beginers to tune, but some of the hardware is cheap so during assembly you might need to fix some things. However once its together its a great all around kit.
