Disappointing, only one good sound

By Richard Egnot

from Cleveland, OH

I was so excited about this when I ordered it. I love Dano/Evets' quirky touch to their gear. After waiting for two weeks due to GC's constant lack of having things in stock, 'twas mine! I was disappointed in the size (especially compared to the Fender Mini-Tweed I traded this for) and I couldn't get a decent sound out of this to save my life. Now, I am not a tone freak whatsoever. I like the strange, obscure and weird side of musical sound. If I can get a cool tone by running the speaker out of my Marshall head into a potato, i'll do it. BUT, this little amp's only aurally pleasing tone was the slapback echo tone, which sounds excellent, but really has no application other than playing rockabilly/surf, which I do very rarely. So, it was back in the box with this one, and off to be traded for my excellent Fender mini.

speakers are not blown, plug in for cleaner sound.

By John in Denver

from Denver, CO

When I got the box in the mail, I was disappointed that it looked bigger in the picture than in real life. but i tried it anyways. not bad. when running it on the battery alone it sounds like the speakers are blown when run at or near full volume. However, When you plug the amp into the wall it cranks up from 9V to 1.5 watts. the speakers stop overdriving like they are blown out when plugged in... all of a sudden the sound cleaned up and the distortion had more definition. The "sweet potato pie" setting is great for practicing on at home. make no mistake about it. this small amp can get surprisingly legitimately loud when played at full volume in an enclosed room. So, if you buy this... its really small, sounds fine played on the battery but if you really want to see it stretch its legs just run it on AC power. the trem is actually pretty good for a factory set digital effect. I actually ran my pedalboard through it. not bad for practicing and song writing at home. it's cheap and uses less power than my tube amp. lacks serious bottom end of a larger amp, but all things considered... two thumbs up.

Good mini amp

By Taylor

from Hamburg, N.Y.

Good amp not bad volume level for a mini amp. The effects are cool. I can fit it in a gig bag. I highly recommended this amp for someone who wants to start playing or for someone who wants something portable.

Small Everything

By Ed

from Central California

I recieved my Hodad DH-1 Mini Amp today. The Reverb works, the tremelo works. There is no clean at all. At any setting it sounds like the speakers are blown. I wanted the clean sound. If it's turned really low, too low to enjoy, then it is close to clean. I am debating if I should send it back or not. I probably will. I am sure there are better mini amps for the money!

Amazing portable amp

By ron

from dallas, tx

I was looking for a small, battery operated amp to play when i didn't want to lug a big amp around because I am very lazy. This thing can create a wide range of sounds, and the tone is so rich and old school. I have recommended this amp to everyone i know, and i urge you to give it a try. I love the "sweet potato pie" setting shown in the instruction manual. Every time I play thru it, I am still amazed at the sound coming out of an amp I can hold in my hand. It has a button for tremolo, which you can adjust the speed of with a screwdriver. It has another button for echo, tone and gain controls, and a plug for an AC adapter, which is not included.
