While I am usually a Boss man myself. I did pick up the Tuna Melt. At the time I got it cheap. But for the money I paid I got a great pedal. It sounds great. You have the obvious speed and depth controls, aswell as a hard or soft switch. The hard or soft switch gives you a little better control of your sound. You can have a clear and complete stop of sound or a little of bit of sound between bursts. The only not-so-good things I can really say about this pedal is it outer design. The pedal is small and plastic. So don't take "stomp-box" to seriously. Also, the on and off switch is about the size of a dime. So unless your wearing shoes and you place your foot carefully you may miss the the button. Other than that I do enjoy using this pedal and it does sound great.

I've heard good reviews of other Danelectro pedals so I thought I'd give this one a try. It just doesn't do what a trem pedal should do. So much of the original sound bleeds through that it's sometimes hard to hear any trem effect even when set to the "hard" position. It was cheap enough that I'll just keep it around, maybe give it away at some point. It does seem to lose just a little bit of volume too and there's no way of adding that back in.

Vintage vibe in a small package

By 2deaconblues

from Auburn, AL

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

The most enjoyable thing you'll ever put between you and your amp. I've always liked the sound of vintage amp tremolo, so when I got this little pedal I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. The speed and depth controls allow you to dial up a very subtle amount of warble, perfect for adding some body to any style lead, or crank it all the way to '50's vintage zone. I don't find much use for the "hard" setting, but I do use it occassionally to end a song. Without using any tremolo at all, I'll step on the Tuna Melt with the hard setting for the last strum and let the chord throb in and out.

Pristine Trem

By jacensday

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

This little pedal offers a very smooth, versatile tremolo. I've used it for recording and stage work, and it can be very subtle or downright spacey. The hard/soft switch has been a must: For subtle variations, the soft side adds just a bit of warm trem for rhythm work, sort of like playing through a Leslie speaker, and the hard side is great for pronounced trem leads. Not the sturdiest box, but it will hold up under pretty heavy conditons. Optional power supply is one of the quietest AC adaptors I've ever used.

Tremolo - an almost forgotten effect

By The Old Man Down the Street

from Metairie, LA

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

Tuna Melt Back in the 50's and 60's better amps came with reverb and tremolo. Today's overdrive is yesterday's tremolo I guess. Like a lot of effects, tremolo can be overused (Crimson and Clover ... over and over....) but, when you want it, the sound is unique. I can't imagine not having it available.

Delicious Tuna Melt

By GibsonEpiphoneGuy

from Chicago

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

It is awsome. It takes a while to get it perfect, but once you do it is awsome. You need the guitar volume way down to hear the choppy noise, if that's what you want. I play Blvd. of Broken Dreams a lot, so that's what I have it set for. Otherwise you just need to let the chord "ring" to hear the choppy noise. It does not make the amp quieter!! It (the amp volume) sounds the same with or without the tremolo on. Over all, GREAT TREMOLO PEDAL!!

Smooth & Deep sounding tremolo.

By Khawaja Jodat

from Pakistan.

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

I bought this pedal last year. On hearing it for the first time it really won my heart due to its smooth, deep & noise-free sound. This pedal is capable of produceing almost every kind of tremolo sound from deep mellow/warm like tremolo effect to quick sharp jerky type of sounds. I used it even on my 6 & 12-string acoustic guitars and it sounded superb. The current draw is very low so you do not need to replace the battery again and again. It is a light weight pedal with a durable plastic body but you have to be careful not to drop it on the bare concrete floor as it may crack its body. Oh yes it has a metal base plate with a non-skid rubber sheet. This pedal is made in China & it is consist of 3 controls i.e, Speed, Depth and Sharp/Soft toggle switch. The knobs are very smooth and turn with some nice braking force to prevents them to rotate uselessly. The overall sound & build quality of this pedal is very good and can be used both in studio & live situations.

60's Sound Delux

By Deb

from Colorado

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

I wanted to play more older 60's music and needed the "tremelo" sound in my arsenal of effects. This is one cool little box and just the right sound. The price was right on and so is the sound.

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

This Pedal gives you the clasic rock sound. I used the Boss Tremolo and the tuna melt compares in sound and is less than half the price. Great deal for this pedal

tuna melt, TASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Ben

from rockville, maryland

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

This tremolo pedal is awesome. It makes the blvd. of broken dreams sound I've been wanting since I got my first amp. The only problem is it broke the third day I had it but that's cause if you use a battery you aren't suppose to leave it plugged in to the guitar and amp. But I got another one the other day. It is awesome!!!!!! I recommend it to any one!!!! P.S. get an adapter for it

AWESOME

By Mason

from New York, New York

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

EVEN if it was twice the price, this pedal would be worth it. It sounds just like old tube amp tremolo. It exceeded my expectations. The only downside, if any, to this pedal is durability. While it should be okay if you are gentle with it, it's very thin plastic and not tough like metal. Also the plastic makes it look a bit like a toy. Also, replace the Danelectro battery IMMEDIATELY with a standard battery. The dano one sucks. Overall this pedal was DEFINITELY worth what i paid for it AND MORE.
