I bought this pedal on the basis of the samples here on musiciansfriend. Not always wise, but these sounds stuck out above all the others I heard. For the price, this was one time I was willing to take a chance.I was looking for a dirty, My Bloody Valentine kind of gentle-but-highly-sustained fuzz-sludge, and this pedal sounded the part.I was immediately pleased when I got this pedal to find that: it is a much darker red than the pics indicate, and it's a lot heavier than I expected. It's actually a solid little mechanism. The sound is classic high-quality fuzzy distortion, with a special little dirty edge. It gradually climbs as you turn the distortion knob, until in the highest setting you're dealing with genuinely heavy distortion. Unlike a lot of pedals, this one doesn't instantly shoot up to near maximum distortion as soon as you move the distortion knob just a little bit. It's controllable and linear. In my experience, unless you're going to spend like $300 on a tube-preamp-pedal thing, this is as good as it gets. If you're looking at $100 solid-state pedals, save money and get this. It honestly, truly and completely sounds every bit as good. Compared to the heaviest pedals from Boss, Line6 or Digitech, this is as good as the best of them. With an external EQ, I can pull an overwhelming range of tones and feels from this pedal.Danelectro is my new favorite manufacturer.

I bought the Darelectro DJ-1 Pastrami Overdrive Pedal a few years ago when I was just starting to play guitar. I didn't know much about pedals then, so I bought it because it was cheap. I brought it home and plugged it into my Yamaha starter amp, and wasn't too impressed, but i thought I'd see if it sounded better through better speakers. So I took it to my church and plugged into the Bose sound system there. My guitar is a Yamaha strat, which usually sounds pretty good, but through this pedal, it sounded awful (even through the Bose PA system)! it sounds more like a bad cord than overdrive. Another annoying thing about this pedal is that it picks up radio signals... whenever I stopped playing I could here a local radio station going through the speakers. The pedal is also poorly constructed (mostly plastic)... and the knobs come off super easy because they are only glued in! I really regret that I bought this pedal, and strongly advise other musicians not to. If you are looking for a good solid-state overdrive pedal, buy the Boss Super Overdrive Pedal... it's definitely worth a little extra money!!

Just what I was looking for!

Comments about Danelectro DJ-1 Pastrami Overdrive Pedal:

This pedal is really nice. I have a Fender frontman 212R and my pedal board is a Holy Grail Reverb, Electro Harmonix Little Big Muff, Digi Tech Bad Monkey Overdrive, and a Vox Wah pedal. I wanted something in between the Big Muff and the Bad Monkey. And this is deffinatly it. But dont let the Overdrive name on this pedal discourage you from buying it, even if your looking for a Distortion pedal. Because this thing can get some really over the top sounds too. It covers a lot of ground from Blues to Hard rock. And for the price you can't beat it!!!!

Decent OD Pedal

Comments about Danelectro DJ-1 Pastrami Overdrive Pedal:

I recently bought this from a local music store and found it to be quite nice. I own a Line 6 Spider III 30W amp, and I use this pedal with the Clean channel. It gives nice distortion that I can't get from the Insane or Metal channels on my amp. It is plastic, but it feels quite durable, and it would take quite a bit of intense stomping to break it. Get it if you want some nice distortion that you can't get from your amp.

Budget tunnel screamer!

By Brian Kamras

Comments about Danelectro DJ-1 Pastrami Overdrive Pedal:

I played one through a simple Randall amp and it sounded quite nice. The construction seems a little flaky (thus the lowered rating) but that's really the only thing that I don't like. It has the token danelectro sound, quite unique, sort of like throwing your guitar through a tunnel. If you had an equaliser that muted out some of the highs, it would no longer be tinny and would be awesome.

Comments about Danelectro DJ-1 Pastrami Overdrive Pedal:

I got this pedal five years ago from my dad. I never really used it much until two years ago. When I plugged it in, I knew it had a great sound coming. It has a lot of sound for a small pedal. Great Pedal Buy IT !

reluctantly pleased

Comments about Danelectro DJ-1 Pastrami Overdrive Pedal:

i bought this pedal about 4 years ago when i first started playing. ive tried it through a bunch of solid state amps and never really liked it. i just recently got the crate v18 212 that they were getting rid of cheap on MF. got a tubescreamer for it, and broke this pedal out just for shits and giggles. now its a part of my everyday rig. its not to great by itself, a little tinny, but i use the screamer for a light o.d. and then dime the gain on this lil lady and with the screamer in front of it, it gives me the ballsy chunk, i was thinking of getting a distortion pedal, but now im not so sure if i will need to. also works alright for a clean boost. and its plastic, but i have put it through some wear and tear and its still holding up fine. but again, i probably would not run this if i diddnt have the tube screamer to smooth it out, as it is a bit rough around the edges.

AWESOME

Comments about Danelectro DJ-1 Pastrami Overdrive Pedal:

I never wanted this pedal. My sister got it for me for Christmas one year, so to be nice, I put it in my live set up. After the first show I used it at, I loved it. I am in a band that plays originals as well as lots of classic rock covers. This pedal is beginning to define my sound. I use it in most of the set, and I love it. Before I had this pedal, I owned the Digitech Hot Head. I now use the Pastrami for ALL live shows, and sold my Hot Head. As far as it's durability, unless you jump on it, you will be fine. I have had it for two years and it hasn't broken. This is a great buy for any guitar player. I HIGHLY recommend it.
