Comments about Danelectro 59MJ Electric Guitar:

When I went to guitar center to find a guitar, I was looking for something that would look different that the usual start, tele, or Les Paul. Two guitars on the wall stood out to me, The Danelectro 59 and the Bari version of the same guitar. The reason it stood out so much was because it is very sparkly but I picked the normal version up and was suprised because of how light it is. I plugged it in and the first thing I was urging to play was blues because of the awesome pick ups. They aren't like anything I have played but they were what I was looking for. every time I pick the guitar up I don't want to put it down. Amazing guitar.

Comments about Danelectro 59MJ Electric Guitar:

Were he guitar in playable condition when I purchased it, it would get five stars. It plays and sounds great, fits in nicely with the various tones in my band.
What I don't understand is that neither of the last two guitars I purchased from GC, were playable: a used Ibanez, and this "blemished" Danelectro. The Ibanez semihollowbody's set up was terrible, and there was a strange buzz coming from the inside. When I returned it, the salesperson agreed that the unwanted sound was a problem. Because the Dano was advertised as blemished, I looked at it closely and could see nothing, no blemish. However, when I plugged it in, it became clear that it had a serious short. I discovered that the ground wire to the input jack was coming loose. This was evident within the first two seconds of plugging it in. Because I liked the guitar, and got it for a good price, I elected to make the repair myself, and keep the guitar. What I don't understand is why would GC sell guitars that can not be played? I have purchased numerous stuff from GC, and have had few complaints, in fact, their return policy is fabulous, in my opinion. Perhaps these two events were a fluke. They occurred withing a couple of weeks of each other, so I wonder if there is some quality control issue. It's weird to me because anyone purchasing either of the two guitars would not be able to play them. Both had to be fixed. Seems to me that using customers as the QC person is a risky business practice. While that strategy may appear to be cheaper in the short run, considering that both guitars were shipped here from other stores, GC was out the shipping charges.
This review is more about GC than the guitar, which as stated previously, is a really cool guitar: light weight, easy to play, has a great unique sound, and is worth the cost. I've had Danos in the past, and as was the case with them, this is far from robust; and I expect it will need ongoing maintenance. Right now it is GOOD!
