Overview

The '59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar is Danelectro' flagship guitar, played by top artists around the globe, and is now available with NOS Lipstick pickups that were made in 1999! These unique pickups offer delicious highs and mids and you find them on any other guitar.

Danelectro's pickup supplier "misplaced" a load of lipstick pickups in their warehouse only to discover them recently, 15 years after they were manufactured. These "New Old Stock" wonders have more twang than any Lipstick ever. So Danelectro
took their flagship 59M model, with the tuneable die cast bridge, and installed these 15 year-old wonders...and ta-da...the best sounding, best playing Dano ever.

I picked this up almost as soon as it became available at guitar center. I had been looking for this specific style of Danelectro and I found that they were few and far between. I got the white on white color because I was gonna paint the pick guard, not sure if I'll still do that though. Well, aside from my PRS that I love, this guitar is amazing. The lipstick pickups are awesome. They have such a clean lipstick tube pickup sound. According to Danelectro, a bunch of these pickups were ""misplaced"" 15 years ago and they just found them last year. Whether or not they were actually ""misplaced"" doesn't take away from the fact they sound amazing! For a guitar that isn't solid wood and is only $350 it's totally worth it! This guitar is staying with me for a very long time.

Customer service for this company is a joke. Ordered the outta sight white and received the aged white instead...on two different occasions. Took probably 3 hours of my time to correct the problem. And by correct, I mean change my order to a black guitar because between the whole company, they could not figure out what was wrong. Made no offer to somehow reimburse me for my time or anything of the sort. If you do decided to order from this company, I hope they get your order right, otherwise you'll spend hours of playing "pass the buck."

Comments about Danelectro '59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar to add to my collection and give me more options on my palette for tones (I record more than I perform live). I has a very unique look, sound, and feel. It is lightweight and relatively easy to manage. The narrowed neck near the headstock is great for fingering chords more easily, but a drawback is the shorter scale (barely 21 frets, of which, truly only 17 or 18 are reasonably usable--anything higher than the 17th or 18th fret is an adventure to finger accurately.). The pickups are hot and bright, but produce a thinner, flatter version of the Dano tone, with less warmth than its predecessors. I have not experienced the problems with tone/volume knobs that others have mentioned--perhaps I'm just lucky. The build is pretty solid, but it should be noted that it is a plywood/masonite body construction that is not as solid as others and should be handled with care and probably kept protected in a case and not exposed to elements, as masonite is known to rot over time. The strings are relatively high quality, and the setup out of the box was good and even, although the action is a tiny bit higher than some, but at least not yielding much string buzz (it seems a lot of guitars these days are set up at 3/64ths or 4/64ths to appeal to shredders--mine was set up at about 5/64ths). Overall, it is a nice addition to my collection, and I will use it frequently in a variety of settings.

Comments about Danelectro '59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

This is the first electric guitar that I've owned in over 25 years (all acoustics). I've always disliked how heavy many electrics are (especially Les Paul's -- Love the sound, hate the weight). The Danelectro is extremely light, with no effects it reminds me of the early 60's Southern California sound; will have to re-learn "Wipe Out". It has a great feel, solid build, good practicing guitar at an extremely good price!!

Comments about Danelectro '59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

Surprisingly great! The pickups are extremely unique. I own an older Dan-o that I modified to give it a warmer and fuller tone. I expected to do the exact same to this one, but as soon as I plugged it in, it sounded exactly how I wanted my older one to sound! I fell in love with the tone! Out of the box the action was a bit higher than I like, but once I adjusted that, it became my go-to guitar for performances. The ONLY complaint I have is the access of the higher frets. If you're a shredder and are looking to have quick access to the higher frets, this guitar will be uncomfortable for that. Anything higher than the 15th fret will require some hand acrobatics. Aside from that, I love this guitar. And you can't beat it for the price.

Comments about Danelectro '59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

I absolutely love this guitar! I played with one for about 45 mins. in the store. I ordered one when I got home ( didn't like color at store). My regular guitar is a MIM Telecaster. The neck on the Dano is a little bit narrower but manageable. The sound can be very bright, but I play it through a VOX AC-4 cranked up a little and it really comes on it's own. I've read reviews of "gritty", "crunchy", "dirty". I'll go with crunchy in a "brittle" way. like walking through crusted over snow rather then say, dry leaves. I really find I can't put it down. The narrow neck makes it easy for me to bar chords (stubby fingers) but I need to work on my finger placement accuracy when I play riffs. It's light in weight, almost cheap feeling, but the fit and finish is Excellent! I can't find any flaws with it.
