Overview

Opportunity knocks! Danelectro's pickup supplier "misplaced" a load of lipstick pickups in their warehouse only to discover them recently 15 years after they were manufactured.

When the folks at Danelectro listened to them they realized that these "New Old Stock" wonders have more twang than any Lipstick ever. Is it because of the aged magnets? Or the materials used 15 years ago? Who knows. Who cares. They just sound great.

So they took their flagship 59M model, with the tuneable die-cast bridge, and installed these 15-year-old wonders...and voila...the best sounding, best playing Dano ever. The bad news? Quantities are limited. So snag yours today. Made in Korea (fabulous build quality). Hot vintage colors.

Not quite there if you're looking for the original Dano tone

Comments about Danelectro 59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

came in the mail today.
good set up, fantastic fret job, comfortable neck, albeit high action. Intonated well, right out of the box. Fresh new strings.

Both pickups were set up fairly high, I sunk the neck pick up to balance it with the bridge and to make sure the mid position gets the dano twang.

The dano tone is somewhat there, but not quite. Danos are fairly bright and with low output pickups, and now with the "upgrade" wrap around metal bridge (looks and feels cheap) the tone is just not there. Sounds thin and without character. The wooden bridge takes away some of the harshness and mellows out the guitar and you get the dano tone everyone loves. This is not it.

Concentric pots are very bad - if you turn the volume, you'll turn the tone, and vice versa. Cheap. Tone control is basically of and on, no in between. You turn almost all the way with no effect on tone, and then all of sudden, at the very end, it goes dark. That's it. If you rely on tone control and volume from the guitar you'll be very disappointed.

I'm returning mine and will look for an earlier reissue that's true to the original. I think the wooden bridge is essential to the dano tone.

Comments about Danelectro 59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

Great guitar for price. Don't expect to sound like and old Danos but it has the classic dano tone....just brighter and more sustain.

Tone pots react too quickly and tone changes all between 1-3 versus tone being affected evenly throughout the sweep.

Nice finish...first one was damaged in shipping so returned that one. Second fine.

Comments about Danelectro 59 Modified New Old Stock Electric Guitar:

I was very excited to get this guitar at first because of it's cool, unique design and the lipstick pickups. However, I became immediately frustrated by the volume and tone knobs and the pickup switch. The knobs started to fall of as soon as I got the guitar. Once I put them back on it was difficult to move them. The pickup switch buzzes every time that I change it from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup. I became frustrated by this because I frequently have to change my tone during songs. However, this guitar is very lightweight and is good to bring to band practice, especially if you have to travel a long distance. If you do not like carrying a very heavy guitar this is a lighter alternative. Also it's price does not empty your wallet. Overall I would say it is a good PRACTICE and travel guitar with a few incredibly annoying problems.
