  • speakers are not blown, plug in for cleaner sound.

As reviewed by John in Denver on 6/10/2010

When I got the box in the mail, I was disappointed that it looked bigger in the picture than in real life. but i tried it anyways. not bad. when running it on the battery alone it sounds like the speakers are blown when run at or near full volume. However, When you plug the amp into the wall it cranks up from 9V to 1.5 watts. the speakers stop overdriving like they are blown out when plugged in... all of a sudden the sound cleaned up and the distortion had more definition. The "sweet potato pie" setting is great for practicing on at home. make no mistake about it. this small amp can get surprisingly legitimately loud when played at full volume in an enclosed room. So, if you buy this... its really small, sounds fine played on the battery but if you really want to see it stretch its legs just run it on AC power. the trem is actually pretty good for a factory set digital effect. I actually ran my pedalboard through it. not bad for practicing and song writing at home. it's cheap and uses less power than my tube amp. lacks serious bottom end of a larger amp, but all things considered... two thumbs up.

  • Amazing portable amp

As reviewed by ron on 12/31/2008

I was looking for a small, battery operated amp to play when i didn't want to lug a big amp around because I am very lazy. This thing can create a wide range of sounds, and the tone is so rich and old school. I have recommended this amp to everyone i know, and i urge you to give it a try. I love the "sweet potato pie" setting shown in the instruction manual. Every time I play thru it, I am still amazed at the sound coming out of an amp I can hold in my hand. It has a button for tremolo, which you can adjust the speed of with a screwdriver. It has another button for echo, tone and gain controls, and a plug for an AC adapter, which is not included.

  • Small Everything

As reviewed by Ed on 1/13/2010

I recieved my Hodad DH-1 Mini Amp today. The Reverb works, the tremelo works. There is no clean at all. At any setting it sounds like the speakers are blown. I wanted the clean sound. If it's turned really low, too low to enjoy, then it is close to clean. I am debating if I should send it back or not. I probably will. I am sure there are better mini amps for the money!
