Don't just play it, SAY it!

Everybody from Joe Walsh to Peter Frampton has used this fantastic effect, now you can have the same effect in a simpler, more economical form. The Danelectro Free Speech Talk Box is wild, it's groovy, it's cool, it's so retro it hurts! No need for an external mic or for connecting to the back of the amp. This little unit does it all.

Disapointing Purchase

I had my hopes high when I bought the Danelectro Free Speech Talk Box. Unfortunately I was disapointed with the results. The concept of the pedal is good in nature, but in reality it is really impractical for any type of live show. Don't get me wrong, its really fun to mess around with at home, but on stage its pretty much a paperweight. The problem with the pedal is its really quiet output. Once its switched on it hushes your signal so much (probably due to weak microphones) that unless you have it plugged into a seperate amplifier you really cant hear it. If this is your ONLY effect then I guess it would work ok, but if you are like me and utilize a variety of effects at once its not worth buying. On the other hand, the Helix Talk Box (the original)works supurb (my lead guitarst uses one of those). It does have a cool paint job though.

Not bad

I wouldn't recommend getting the Dan. talk box if you play live, it's not loud enough. You have to put the mini mics as close to the end of the tube as possible to pickup the sound. I've had the Rocktron Banshee as well, big difference, but I kept the Dan. because I rarely use a talk box, if I do, it's just to play around with, no live use. You can't expect much volume if you look at it, pretty small unit for a talk box. It's not too bad if you mic it properly, I'm talking about using a different mic and sending it to the PA or other amp. No other talk boxes are like the Dan. though, they all require mic'ing (obviously), but the Dan. you can use their stock mics and truly plug and play. On a side note, this goes for all talk boxes: clean the tube after each use.
