I am very satisfied with this snare. After buying a PDP Concept Maple Kit in October, I decided to introduce myself to the DW line. I've always wished I could afford their drums. The features are beautiful. Pristine. The inner veneer is lacquered. Looking around the edges at all ten plies of maple, you can clearly see the same, high quality wood throughout the shell. Sometimes when you look at a mid to low level snare, you see the black, dead spots in the center plies. Not the case here. The DW Performance snare I have is the USA made one. The Mexican made Performance snares have the dual turret lugs (pictured on musiciansfriend). Mine has the quarter lugs. I'm very happy with the sound/tone. I've owned high quality maple snares in the past, and never thought I'd find a snare I enjoy playing more than my 2005 Pork Pie Maple Snare, but I have; and it's the Performance Snare.

I returned this drum after 2 weeks, and I really wanted to like it...The bearing edge and snare bed was poorly crafted, and the shell had many inconsistencies, making it impossible to tune the reso side. My stock pacific FS birch 5" snare sounded better (according to several people blinded to which drum I was playing) Returned this drum to GC in Tacoma and Garrett promptly took it back, also stunned by it's lack of quality. I got a Pearl Masters 14x6.5, and I'm loving it!!

The Best there is

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

I have the 14 x 6.5 candy apple lacquer, and I'm truly blown away! This is by far the best snare I have ever owned. I was shopping in a guitar center and grabbed this off the shelf to try it out. I was instantly in love. It looks like a million bucks, and SOUNDS like a million bucks. Everything they say about DWs is true. It's so easy to tune. It gives me the exact sound I need. I didn't even bother changing the stock head because it sounded like a dream already. Honestly, I didn't even think that I was going there to get a DW snare, I wasn't sure I could afford it, but after hearing that sound, I knew it was worth it. It also has a great crack when you hit it correctly. It's a great sound for jazz, R&B, Gospel, and much more. You won't regret it.

Worth the money amazing sound quality!

By Alex Lundgren

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

I recently purchased this drum and, i am not disappointed. The sound quality is amazing, also it has a really nice look to it (candy apple). The only problem i had with this drum is that due to the fact that DW are made to the order, it was hard to track down one of these drums. Make sure to call the company before you order one to make sure they have one in stock, as when i called they only had select models available.

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

The snare drum is always the cheapest piece of a kit, but this one is one of the best snares I have heard in years. Even with the stock head, sounds great. If you own a Performance kit, you probably have the 14X61/2 snare drum. You can't crank it up too much, but the 14X51/2 is the real deal if you wish to tune it really high.

It would be also a great addition to an existing kit, wether you own a Design Series or a PDP kit. Not expansive and sounds fantastic !

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

Been playing drums over 10 years. I bought this snare randomly. I prefer 13 inch snares and this one is huge. Very loud but also very versatile. Throw off is very solid. DW just makes great drums and this feels like a custom snare. The finish is beautiful. I love this snare, ill keep it forever.

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

When mic'd up this snare sings! I bought the performance series 4pc kit and got the 6.5 x 14 included. Love the kit overall and as with any DW product, its well made. The only issues I have is I hated the heads that originally came with it. changed them to Evans SD14 Genera HD and hazy 300 and got a way better tone. But Im still lacking in loudness that i want in the practice space or when not mic"d. I own a Tama starclassic 5.5 x 14 with diecast hoops and its my go to. I think it has a great tone overall and Im happy to own it but it is now my secondary snare.

Great option if you're looking for a wood snare!

            By Ryan Monaghan

            from Kansas

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

I've been playing on my 5.5x14 DW Performance snare for a few weeks now, and I really like it. I had been playing on a 6X14 Pork Pie Little Squealer steel snare, and I decided that I wanted to add a wood snare to my arsenal, so I chose this one. I love the mag throw off, and the snare sounds really controlled. It has an even warm tone and pronounced attack. I'm still using the stock head, but it sounded so good out of the box, I just decided to save my money and keep the stock head on for now. I bought the natural lacquer finish, and it's really beautiful. It has excellent build quality and it looks great! If you're looking to add another snare to your collection, or if you're wanting a new versatile main snare, I definitely recommend this one.

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

Purchased the snare about One month ago and am pleased to all ends with it. The drum has great sound with or without the snare on. The snare is quick and crisp, the two tone batter head is great for accenting notes, especially when incorporating a rim shot. The snare lever is smooth and easy to operate. Good purchase.

            Best Snare Ive ever played!

            By Cesar Lopez

            from Beaverton, OR

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:

I used to play with a Sound Percussion Snare for 5 years. I had to put moongels on, to dampen the sound. It was also loud and annoying. When I bought the Dw Performance snare, I thought this was the best snare I've ever played with! It was easy to control the sound, it had a good response, and it didn't need moongel anymore. It was a blessing! Although the hoop is a little higher than usual. It also has a nice throw off! I chose the Stain Laquer 6.5x14.
