I was in the market for a Ludwig Bronze snare but after I tested this drum, I was sold. I could not see spending so much on metal snare when this is available for half. I am not a DW fan because I think their kits are overpriced BUT this snare is a very good deal. The quality is great and it feels real good to play. I love the super-hoop and the feel of this drum. I've played Ludwig Black Beauties and this drum feels better to me because of the hoop and weight of the drum. It projects and has a great sound. I'm a 40+ yr player and Ludwig fan BUT I love this drum.

Originally purchased this snare drum in July. The first drum that I received had a minor defect, but just enough to bother me. The brass shell was out of round slightly, which caused the symmetrical gap around the head to be off about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch from one side to the other. Obviously, the head would not seat correctly, and made the drum impossible to tune to its full potential. So I returned that drum to musicians friend with no problems, and waited for the replacement. The second drum arrived a couple of weeks later with the same issue, except this time much worse. At this point I'm frustrated. I do not blame musicians friend, as the snare was packaged by DW in 2 boxes for shipping (one inside the other). They would have had no way of knowing. You may ask, why not just get a refund? The thought had crossed my mind, but I really wanted this to work out. So I decided to call DW directly about the problem. They were very sympathetic to my problem, and we're more than willing to help resolve the issue, by replacing the snare directly out of the DW factory in the US. I am currently waiting on my replacement. Crossing my fingers that this will be the one. Not going to bash musicians friend or DW. I am optimistic for a happy outcome.

Comments about DW Collector's Series Brass Snare Drum:

I was totally happy with my DW maple snare until I had a chance to lay my hands ( and sticks) on this baby. I can't say snuff about the quality, sound, and price of this snare! How often do you get to say it's priced well with DW!!

Can't go wrong with this DW Collectors brass snare

Comments about DW Collector's Series Brass Snare Drum:

It arrived on Tuesday and I gigged with it at a punk rock show Tuesday night. It was essentially playable right out of the box and hardly needed any tuning. The three-way throw-off is a really handy feature. The Reno stock heads are great quality and have a nice tone. The snare is loud and crisp, and cuts through the other band instruments nicely. Visually, it is a stunning drum.

Comments about DW Collector's Series Brass Snare Drum:

Simply put, I have two brass 6 1/2"x14" snare drums. This one, and a Big Black Bob by Pork Pie. The BBB by Pork Pie has more highs and crispness to it than the DW. The DW has good mids and a deeper tone to it than the Pork Pie. Both are fantastic drums, it just depends on what kind of sound you're after. It's definitely a top shelf drum at a fair price.
I've posted a video of me playing this drum.

This snare really has the sound that everybody looking for if not u can tune it to meet more than expected .the throw off is a cool thing, and the 3 position lever on the RH side is cool to change the snare tension at any given time without having to adjust the throw off.. buy one and play all you dream of. I had to special order my snareit has the black nickel hardware. to match my set. I have the real black beauty all black!! I had to buy the whole set of collectors drums 6 piece and have been very satisfied such a great product .everything they make hardware and the whole line of acc. is top quality. doesn't get any better than this. I had Yamaha's before this set like the diff. between big mac and Prime rib. buy DW's you wont be sorry !

Comments about DW Collector's Series Brass Snare Drum:

Great drum that has great look! Easily tailorable to different sounds with the 3-way snare adjustment. Snare drum sounds dry, open or in-between, by merely setting snare adjustment in one of 3 positions. Cross sticking in very defined and seems louder than the Pearl Floating Brass Snare I was using before. Rimshots have nice crack and sound seems to vary more when adjusting stick and rim/head orientation. Did I mention this is a great looking drum?? Anyway, it will be a while before I settle on tuning. The depth of this 6.5 makes every tuning sound pretty darn good. My only gripe is the Remo head, that came with the drum, failed about two weeks after I started playing the drum (it was a present my wife bought about a month before my birthday). I tuned it carefully using a Evans torque key and didn't even come close to the tension I had on my last snare. Started playing it one day and realized the tone had dropped. Started tightening and realized something bad was wrong. On removal of head, found the ring had separated from the head...never saw that happen in 45 years I have played. Luckily had my spare Remo and installed it. Guess I will have to spring for another spare.

Comments about DW Collector's Series Brass Snare Drum:

I bought this thin 1mm brass snare to replace an aging Ludwig LM402 Supraphonic which had started to pit. I have been playing LM402's since the 80's so I was a little concerned buying this DW snare. I have a DW Collectors kit which I love, but I've had DW Collectors wood snares in the past which I did not like (too dry sounding). This thing sounds awesome. It has a lot more low end than the LM402 and it still has that familiar metallic tone which I love. The fit and finish is incredible and is much better that the Ludwig snares. Every part on this drum is quality. I like this drum so much I have ordered the 1mm aluminum version. I will write a review of that one when it arrives.
