DW's flagship line, the Collectors Series, are the original US-made custom drums. For years, drum makers have preferred maple for its resonant tonal qualities. Maple is a traditional shell material that provides low-end punch, warmth and attack. This DW Shell Pack features North American maple shells with 3-ply reinforcement hoops. Toms 8-13" are 6-ply, while 14" and bigger (including bass drums) are 7-ply.
It also features DWs patented STM (suspension tom mount) system, which allows drums to vibrate independently, allowing maximum resonance while securely holding the drum in place. Because there are no washers or grommets inhibiting the lug rod receiver, choking is reduced and tuning is as easy as ever.
To give drummers even more control over their sound, DW created its patented True-Pitch rod system. The rods feature 5mm threads rather than the 12/24 thats standard on most other drums. To compare, there is 1 thread every 0.8mm on True-Pitch rods (about 20% more threads), versus 1 thread every 1.05mm on most other drums. The result is a more exacting tuning process.
Crested by chrome hardware, this shell pack features a 12 x 9" rack tom, 14 x 14" and 16 x 16" floor toms and a 24 x 16" kick drum.
Snare, cymbals and hardware sold separately.

Comments about DW Collector's Series 4-Piece Shell Pack w/24" Bass Drum:
This is my second DW kit. The first was a 2003 Collector's Series. I must say, DW has made some improvements and the devil is in the details. Firstly, the finish is flawless. Easy to take care of, and gorgeous under stage lights. Secondly, the hardware has been improved and feels more rugged. More "tightly put together" if that makes sense. I was a little hesitant about the DW heads that come with the kit, but after a show (through a large PA system) I can say that I'm amazed at the sheer low end of the kit. The 14" floor tom is a bruiser. The 16" is more 18" -esque. The 12" is fully rounded out with plenty of punch to cut through guitars and enough depth to let fills in ballads really stick out. The 24" kick will take your head off. Killer, killer, killer kick drum. The kick also came with two DW muffle pillows already mounted inside for easy control. Overall, I am CRAZY happy with this drumset. If you've never owned a DW kit you will find out two things as soon as you set them up: 1) Sound engineers will LOVE you. 2) People will stare at the kit like a brand new Mercedes-Benz. Long live DW!
