These drum heads are very responsive and impressed me. I'm upgrading to these head for my all my toms. As John good, Developer of Drum Workshop, describes that hitting a drum is like dropping a pebble in a pond, first you see the rebound of where you dropped it, then you see the little waves move towards the edge. This concept is what happens when you strike the drum head, and the coated rings placed on the edge decrease bad overtones but doesnt fully dampen the drum.

45 year veteran player. Got my new DWs and the intro. DVD asked that we at least give these original equipment heads a try. I did and I think they play and sound barely better than the usual oe heads on even cheap sets. They are tonelessly loud if you're into that. So far I've tried Ambassador coated and Pinstripe clears and they both sound great on the DWs. These were not for me or lots of others...just check the auction site(s) to see how many people change these out from new sets immediately. This is a great price if you like them but Musician's Friend needs to expand size availability for those who do.

Best sounding heads on PDP/DW period!

By Ryan

Pros

  • Good Quality

Cons

Comments about DW Coated/Clear Tom Batter Drumhead:

I have used these heads on at least 3 different PDP sets, 2 X7 kits and an M5 kit. Paired with the maple shells, the drums sing beautifully but also cut down on overtone enough to not need any muffling with proper tuning. I paired them with factory bottom heads (I believe REMO ambassadors) and they sounded much better than the price of the kit would suggest. These heads really do change the quality of your kit. I will be ordering another set as soon as my new DW design series comes in. Love them and will continue to use them as long as they are around!

This is my second head like this, this gives me the feel and sound of 2 drum sets, 2 toms with coated DW heads 2 toms with hydraulic heads. Each in line pitch-wise, but contrasting differently, almost like 2 sets of drums!!! Great product great price, great effect for me.

          DW Stock Heads

          By Casey Sharp

          from Texas :(

Comments about DW Coated/Clear Tom Batter Drumhead:

I got my new DWs in and absolutely love them! Now about the stock heads...... To tell you the truth, I'm not that impressed with the heads. To me they still sound like a stock head, just a very high end stock head. Don't get me wrong, the heads sound good, but not amazing. But it could also be because of what I'm use to using (EC2 Clears). Once you get used to something, it's hard to make a change.

The heads seem kind of thick and don't really have the deep, fat punch that I'm looking for. Although they sound better on my 14 and 16 than they do on my 10 and 12.

All in all, I probably wouldn't buy these heads again, but are doing very well for me until I can afford some new ones.

          DW Clear Batter

          By Matt-Cz.cL

Comments about DW Coated/Clear Tom Batter Drumhead:

Wow! I got my new Dw set and knew that the heads would live up to my expectations. Only DW would bother putting top of the line heads on their drums. DW rocks. Zildjian A Series too!

          DW heads

          By DWforever

          from Fowler California

Comments about DW Coated/Clear Tom Batter Drumhead:

These are the stock heads that came with my DW kit a while back before I replaced them with my Evans. I had used them and was blown away by the depth and tone of them, (the fact that they were stock heads blew my mind). Recently my heads needed to be changed, so I thought, why not rekindle some old flames with DW? So I shopped around all over the place for them and found them in musicianfriend, unfortunately they only stock 12' and 14' heads, so I bought the '12' and found some at my local music store and bought the rest, DW has amazed me yet again with this fine product! These heads can be tuned low and still maintain their presence and yet can be tuned high and keep their fullness. Great buy recommend for all styles.
