Overview

To create incredibly smooth, gravity-defying action, the DW 9000PB Single Pedal has a Floating Rotor that's not permanently affixed on a conventional drive shaft but is mounted on a free-floating drive shaft using friction-reducing ball bearings. In addition, the patented rotor can be adjusted using the Infinite Torque Adjustment for a variety of positions from center (Turbo-style) to eccentric (Accelerator-style), achieving the desired balance of power and precision in any playing situation. Furthermore, by moving the location of the Floating Spring from the end of the hex shaft to the center of the pedal, the vertical alignment of the moving parts is maintained and the indirect transfer and loss of energy is virtually eliminated - further optimizing the pedal's speed and power and precision.

In addition to Delta ball-bearings at the rocker, hex shaft, and hinge, the 9000 also employs friction-reducing ball-bearings in the rotor and spring connector while incorporating several of the 5000 Series' most popular upgrades such as a stackable heel plate, dual/side adjusting hoop clamp, 101 2-way beater, built-in spurs, and lightweight aluminum pedal plates and linkages. Includes deluxe Cordura bag.

I've been using my DW 9000 pedal for a couple of months now. The pedal is a substantial piece of drum equipment weighing in at approximately 6 lbs. The pedals are assembled in the USA with components manufactured in Taiwan and the USA. The entire assembly is mounted to a sturdy aluminum base. The underside of the base has strips of Velcro, which does an excellent job of adhering the pedal to a low pile drum rug. There are two angled spurs to further anchor the pedal, however I find the spurs are not needed when using a drum rug as the Velcro is very sticky. The pedal's operation is extremely quite, smooth and responsive. To me there is a nice weighted feel when my foot is pulled back far enough to see the dw logo and the 9 or part of the 9 on the footboard. If you typically allow yourself to to get used to default settings when you buy something, out of the box this pedal feels pretty good. If your constantly tweaking with settings trying to get that perfect feel, then this pedal might keep you busy as there are many available adjustments and many settings within each adjustment. The bass drum hoop clamp can be adjusted so the angle of the pinch can accommodate different hoop thicknesses. The actual opening and closing of the clamp shoots out to the right side allowing for easy access, not having to mess around underneath the footboard to clamp or remove the pedal. Out of the box the pedal is equipped with a double chain. There is also a nylon strap for players who prefer that. I haven't tried the nylon strap. From what I have read the nylon drive system allows for a more relaxed, floating pedal feel. One of the adjustments I found complex is the torque adjustment. From the factory the pedal is set to the eccentric torque position (referring to the manual to remember this stuff). Eccentric = increased speed and sensitivity. A concentric adjustment can be made as well. Concentric = powerful and consistent feel. The book suggests concentric for general purpose playing. There is a lot of in-between on these settings. I have mine set somewhere in the middle. Other adjustments to be made are the footboard angle and stroke distance. The heel platform can also be elevated, however this requires the purchase of a DW Pedal Customizing Kit. The stock heel platform is 3/4" from the floor. I play heel-up and never rest down one the heel platform when I'm playing. The pedal has a 5-year limited warranty. Cast parts are covered moving parts are not. One thing to consider about the DW 9000 is it cannot be converted to a double-pedal set-up. If you have no interest in a double-pedal or want a solid dedicated single, of the choices out there this is nice option in my opinion. I really like the sturdy feel of this pedal. The footboard only moves two ways, down and up. There isn't any side to side play or that swinging hammock feel I have experienced with a more entry level pedal. Also, used in conjunction with a drum rug the kick drum doesn't budge (at least not in my applications).

I thought this pedal was garbage. I've been playing a 5000 Accelerator for about 4 years and haven't found a better pedal on the market. The 9000 is poorly designed and doesn't have a feel that can even be compared to the 5000. If you play fast and hard, the footboard is prone to banging into the big, oversized cam. Regardless of adjustment, it doesn't have the power and speed of the feel of the 5000. The beater also resides much further to the right than it should, make it fall 2" to 3" right of the center of the head...which reduces the sound of the drum. Hated it! Returned it 3 days later!

Perfect.

By Alex Braczynski

from Buffalo, New York

The pedal is excellence. I'm upgrading from a Mapex P700 and Gibraltar Prowler and the craftsmanship is second to none. Very smooth pedal. It's probably the first thing you notice. No squeak or nothing. Just easy, responsive light tapping is all you need. I was hoping to be ripping triplets off right of away but I suppose I'm still need some practice. This isn't the pedals fault. It has a ton of customization using Torque Adjustment in order to figure out if you want speed or more power.

Great pedal

By Matt Altieri

from Massachusetts

I just got this pedal and I really like it. It makes your work on the pedal pretty effortless. I think it is awesome how much you can adjust and change this pedal to fit your comfortability for playing whatever style of music that you want to play. I do like this pedal overall and it was a great upgrade from my old DW7000 which was terrible, the only thing that I dont like about this pedal is that in the manual that you recieve the information is very vague and not too informative. I wish that it told you more how to adjust the pedal and all of the settings. For the most part this pedal is a great buy!

Excellent pedal

By JIMMY LARSON

from Lincoln, Alabama

I've been playing for over 40 years and have used many different types and brands and this one is by far the best I've used. I haven't had any problems with the pedal banging into anything while playing. I don't play like a maniac either. I do play hard driving music and this pedal does the job extremely well. It's smooth and fast. The adjustments are great allowing you to make the pedal "yours". I've never liked double pedal setups and this pedal allows me to do almost as well as if I had a double pedal with half the effort. Excellent piece of equipment. Has my strongest endorsement.

Up!! up!! and set your foot on this pedal!!!

By crabs.on.crabs

from Knoxville, TN

I can see that other people are writing long winded reviews...because it deserves it!!! To put it short and to the point, this pedal covers all the basic needs and more. It's impossibly fast, super smooth, and built like a bullet proof armored car. DW should just put a cape and mask on this superhero of pedals.

Great pedal, but...

By Justin

from Virginia

So I've had this pedal for a year and it has never failed me. AMAZINGLY smooth and adjustable and built like a tank. However, if you're a player like me who likes the foot board to be a little on the high side, you might want to think twice about getting this pedal because of one major design flaw... The front of the foot board (especially when playing heel-down) can sometimes "clank" against the cam and depending on how heavy the stroke is it can be rather loud. I've only recorded once with this pedal and won't do it again because of the metal-to-metal contact that this pedal can create. If DW were to redesign it, the pedal would be flawless, but for now the quieter DW 5000 will be my weapon of choice.

Very responsive

By Chicken Bone

Great Petal! I was a fan of the 5000 series for a long time, but this petal is way more responsive and solid as a rock. Hit your local GC and try the rest. I'm willing to bet it's in the top 3 for feel and #1 in options.
