Comments about DV Mark Maragold Greg Howe Signature 40W All Tube Guitar Head:

I have lots of amps and guitars. I needed a amazing clean tone and a overdrive the has a rich beautiful sparkle for a Christian band I was helping. Nothing I had nailed the tone I wanted just right. I had an orange OR15 which didn't do what I wanted. I tried other amps more suited to higher gains but they did not get the dynamics I needed. I found the dynamics I needed with the DV mark! The clean channel was amazing, and the overdrive channel had that sparkle! I run a bit of pedals with this....Eventide H9 max, bigsky, möbius, flight time delay, EQ, etc. I usually run it paired with its neoclassic matching cab or direct using a Mesa Cabclone. Everyone that hears this rig loves its tone. I am very happy with it!

Comments about DV Mark Maragold Greg Howe Signature 40W All Tube Guitar Head:

Found this item on clearance & took a chance on it , what an incredible head . Running through an egnater tweeker 1x12 along with an egnater rebel 30 +1x12 in stereo with stereo effect loops . The fullness of the sound is impressive to say the least. DV mark maragold vs Egnater Rebel 30 ...... DV mark wins hands down .

Comments about DV Mark Maragold Greg Howe Signature 40W All Tube Guitar Head:

First off, after having this amp for the last few months, I am surprised to see so many mediocre reviews were written about it. It is a stellar sounding instrument when dialed in properly, and used with the right guitar. It tends to respond better to guitars which have less bass response, like Strats, super strats, and Telecasters, etc., versus Les Paul type guitars, which naturally have a lot of bottom end. For example, my Suhr Modern sounds absolutely incredible through the lead channel, while my LP Custom sounds a bit on the muddy side. All the guitars I have sound great through the Clean channel.

The clean channel is very clean, with an immediate attack. It doesn't really break up much, and it's not overly bright, which makes it a fantastic pedal platform. I've run several drive pedals through the front of it, and I have yet to find one that doesn't sound good with it. It is also significantly louder than the lead channel. I rarely have the volume above 9:00-9:30 through a Bogner OS 2x12 for live gigs, with the gain set at about noon, and that is pretty loud.

The lead channel is a bit heavy on the low mids, and has a thicker and darker overall sound to it, but still cuts well through a mix. There is plenty of gain on tap, with good sustain and punch, which makes it feel very easy to play leads through it. It's definitely voiced more for lead playing, rather than rhythm playing, but still has a good overall British crunch vibe to it. This channel does get noisy with the gain past noon, but I've gotten great results with the master volume dimed, and bringing the gain up just enough to get the amp singing, which is about 10-11:00. There is a bit of hiss, but the amp really comes alive at that point.

I do run a delay and reverb pedal through the loop, and have not had any issues with volume levels. It sounds very clear and quiet.

Overall, the amp has great tone and is ultra light weight, making it very easy to gig with.

Comments about DV Mark Maragold Greg Howe Signature 40W All Tube Guitar Head:

This amp is a hidden gem. I was not at all familiar with DV Mark amps, but I went in the store to test out some guitars, and ended up falling in love with this amp, so it came home with me. Absolutely fantastic tone. It has a very nice, punchy clean channel, and a thick, warm sounding lead channel with British bite to it, very similar to my old Bogner Triple Giant preamp, which I loved. To top it all off, it is very lightweight and easy to take to gigs. It is also LOUD. The clean channel rarely goes past 9:00 on the volume for gigs.

The only cons would be that the lead channel can get pretty noisy at gigging volume with the gain past 2:00 (which is pretty high gain), and it does not come with a footswitch. I run the gain at around noon, which is plenty for hard rock, and it is fairly quiet. The lack of reverb is not an issue to me, as I use pedals.

Comments about DV Mark Maragold Greg Howe Signature 40W All Tube Guitar Head:

I really was hoping that this amp would be the ticket for me but it had a couple of issues that I just could not live with. I had been looking at these online for some time and then I watched the Greg Howe promo video and was sold. I was looking for a moderately powered head with a clean and gain channel that I could grab and take to practice that would cut through the mix. I will first admit that I bought this used in 'Excellent' condition and indeed when it arrived it didn't look to have been played much. I also needed a effects loop in order for this to work in our band. This is where I noticed some issues. I have a moderate effects board running two delays, one chorus and a volume pedal through the loop. I have three other high power heads that this works great on. With this head though, I noticed when I engaged the FX loop the overall volume of the amp dropped significantly. At first I thought it might have been my volume pedal so I removed it from the loop but still the volume of the amp dropped a lot. I also tried engaging the disengaging the db switch for the loop and that just decreased it more. Additionally I tried just one delay in the loop - same problem, so strike 1.
Secondly, with the gain channel master on about 2:00 o'clock and the gain on 12:00 the amp was just really noisy and hissy. Strike 2.
Other things: I opened up the amp to try replacing the V1 pre-amp tube with one that I know is a great tube from my collection of tubes but that made no difference with the noise issue. I will admit that this is a very finely constructed unit with a lot of apparent attention to detail including ceramic tube sockets, Ruby tubes and leather corner covers. I am disappointed that this amp did not work out as it is exactly what I needed but with a noisy gain channel and effects loop issues I had to return it. Hopefully this is just a rare exception with this amp.

Comments about DV Mark Maragold Greg Howe Signature 40W All Tube Guitar Head:

I was searching for something that had a great clean tone, and a lighter overdrive that really communicated what i was playing. I tried a orange or15, and a PRS archon, and was still not happy until i found this amp!
The punchy tone really got me going, and the cleans were so versatile! However it is not for any type of Crazy High Gain situation, I have an ENGL powerball 2 i use for that. If you are looking to play metal, look elsewhere. This amp has a beautiful tone and takes effects well! I'm running a strymon bigsky in the effects loop, along with a mobius....so those complaining about no reverb...HELLO..there is a great effects loop on board!
