Overview

Gauges 12, 16, 24, 32, 42, 54.

Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Strings are a departure from the standard, good-quality bronze string currently available – not necessarily better, but possessing a new, different, and stronger voice. Hand-carved archtops, dreadnoughts, and good steel string acoustic guitars of rosewood, maple, and mahogany benefit from a distinct improvement in tone, depth, and sustain with a fatter, louder sound and a deeper bottom.

Best sounding strings on all the guitars I have tried them on. I buy a bunch of strings each time I get a new guitar to find the best for that guitar. It always end up being DR Rares. And they last. I have found good sounding strings but they last a couple of days at best. But I had these on my guitar for over a month and they still sounded good. And I play hard. They hold up.

I bought a beautiful Guild d-40 that had DR rare's 12-54 on it. I really liked the tone and the owner told me he just put them on the day before. The strings had that good tone for about 3 day's or let's say 6 hours and then they sounded lifeless, dull, flat. I wanted to love these strings because they felt so nice in my hands so I bought some more from MF and the brand new strings out of the package had black spots up and down the string and they were dead immediately, I had to cut the brand new strings off and put on another set of ole standby strings. I hear they are handmade which made me immediately think they took great pride in these strings but out of my 2 experiences/3 different sets and completely different batches of strings I have to say they are very inconsistent and I wouldn't be buying anymore unless I hear they have taken care of these issues. I researched them after my issue and apparently this is common when talking DR strings. I want to like them because they did feel great and sounded nice that very first set but I need consistency with my tone.

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I read the reviews and noticed they were pretty old, so I decided to write a review. I am a professional musician, but I don't consider myself a guitar player - I play to accompany myself and write songs. I have a Taylor mini and I bought some other strings that I didn't like at all, so I ordered these DR's. I really like them. They feel good and sound good all across the tonal spectrum. I was looking for good lows and mids for my Taylor and these strings supply that. I will definitely buy these again. I saw a couple of the reviews that had 1 star, but then said they liked these strings so I was a little baffled by that. I really like them - and though I have not had them a long time - they stay in tune really well. i guess I will see how long they last, but so far so good.

DR RPM 12 for my Martin d custom

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I only use DR RPM 12 on my Martin D custom. These strings are all i have used on this guitar since i have owned it with the exception of a set of another brand and only because there were no DR RPM 12 available. But as soon as i could find a music store that had them, I got em. My MARTIN is my number one guitar and it is with me on every show I play and I record with this same guitar. DR RPM 12's have been my go to strings. For an acoustic guitar, these are THE strings to use for me. They last a long time and they sound great.

      A Little Disappointed

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I bought these strings for a Guild M-120 that I have. I heard they might sound good with Mahogany body guitars. These strings were a disappointment from the get-go. The B string was defective and had obvious nicks right where you strum and also about 4" higher. I took the guitar back to Guitar Center to show the strings to the sales person. They were nice enough to give me an extra single Ernie Ball B string for when the defective string breaks which I would expect to be any day now.The strings also sound a little "tinny" to me. I think I'll go back to the Earthwood strings which I'm sorry I took off the guitar to try these out.

PERFECT amount of bend to size of string.... Even in a "Light" kinda gauge, they feel "Heavy". Sustain for days, specifically on my All Mahogany Fender CD60... Stay in tune near Perfectly once strings are fully stretched.

Comments about DR Strings RPM-12 Light RARE Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I have tried most of the major brands of acoustic phosphor bronze strings over the years. For me, DR is the best, and DR Rare their best option. There is a richness and depth and projection I don't feel or hear with any other brand. The sound is full and warm and natural - any guitar I own sounds best with DR Rare's on it. Just my option, but I am completely happy with them.

These strings are dull and lifeless. I immediatley noticed the tone drops off very quickly. I love DR's pure blues electric strings but these are terrible. Honestly, I cant say anything good about these strings. I recommend Martin Marquis.
