Overview

Gauge 11-14-18-28-38-50.

Pure Blues electric guitar strings from DR Strings are designed with pure nickel wrap wire, roundwound upon round cores. While this is a slow, expensive method of string making, it does produce a guitar string acclaimed for increased sustain, vintage tone, and great low tones for playing music from rhythm to lead. The extra step of winding pure nickel around a round core give Pure Blues strings a punch that players say they are surprised to get in a vintage electric guitar string. Sounds great on any guitar!

I had high hopes for these particular strings as I always hear great things about DR strings. I was severly disappointed. The high E string did not even last an hour after I restrung my guitar. I went through three packs within two hours. I am sure the other "flavors" of strings DR offers are of better quality but this particular set(s) definately left a very bad taste in my mouth.

PHR11's Are Awesome!!

By GitBox

Comments about DR Strings PHR11 Pure Blues Nickel Heavy Electric Guitar Strings:

Excellent product! These strings have more clarity than anything I've used before. They're great for stage performances. They are also the longest lasting string I've found. Usually I have trashed a set of strings after one gig but these usually last through the week after the gig. I highly recommend DR Pure Blues.

I Love these strings

Comments about DR Strings PHR11 Pure Blues Nickel Heavy Electric Guitar Strings:

Best strings I have came across yet. Although the next time my guitar is setup I will come up with my own custom set(size) but you can bet it is going to be worked around these. Derek Trucks also uses these so thats enough said within it self.

Best Strings Ever!

By Jason

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about DR Strings PHR11 Pure Blues Nickel Heavy Electric Guitar Strings:

These things are great. I've been playing for 11 years, and I've gone through too many string brands to list. These are definitely the best I've yet to use. They're bright like nothing else I've ever used, and they keep their definition much longer than most strings. They last almost as long as coated strings, but don't suffer from that 'tinny' sound that the polyweb/nanoweb causes. I like to EQ my amp for bottom end and roll off the highs, these keep me from sounding muddy.

Bad Strings

By Ibanez_28

from Birmingham

Comments about DR Strings PHR11 Pure Blues Nickel Heavy Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings were horrible. I didn't have them a month and they started breaking. I do have a tremolo bar but only one has broke when i used it. The others just broke when i was playing. The only one that haven't broke were the g and b strings. Ernie Balls are better in my opinion.

Bigger Blues can make any guitar Better!!!

By Dean

from Willoughby, OH

Comments about DR Strings PHR11 Pure Blues Nickel Heavy Electric Guitar Strings:

I loved the feel of Pure Blues as soon as I first hit them. Just a completely comfortable string in every way. Smooth, effortless bends with an easy pull for all sorts of playing. I originally used the .09 gauge and decided to grab some big strings because I still wasn't getting the sound I was looking for. Once I fretted the .11 gauge on my Gibson Less Paul, the sound I was looking for and felt like I was playing started to happen. Even pinch harmonics came alive and became more controllable. Don't let anyone tell you that you cant move on to bigger strings because I did and wish I had much sooner. Bigger Blues are Better. Even on my mid 70s Lotus Strat which I had EB .08 on felt so much better and I loved the life it seemed to take on. I am going to put these Pure Blues on every guitar now because I am a believer that Bigger Blues will make any guitar Better. So long EB, DM, DA and all of the rest of the string makers. I only wish I had these strings 42 years ago when I started playing. My son is changing his guitars over now after playing my guitars with the Bigger Blues. Play them and you will like them.

Comments about DR Strings PHR11 Pure Blues Nickel Heavy Electric Guitar Strings:

This is the 1st time I used these strings. Got them for a Lap Steel ( cheap one ) when reviews mentioned to change the strings imidiatly because vender string sucked.
WELL, this was true, so I'm comparing suck strings to these.
However, after about 20 min into playing with them I started hearing the sound these produced. I'm liking it. It has a definite blues but not far off from the country steel licks. All in all, I do recommend them. I'm gonna get another set to try on my Telle.

Comments about DR Strings PHR11 Pure Blues Nickel Heavy Electric Guitar Strings:

I decided to try these out when I chose to move from 10's to 11's. Compared to the Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalts I had on these have a smoother and more refined tone to them. The best way to describe it is that warm feeling I get from a shot of whiskey, only audible. The downside though is I've noticed the high end sounds a little tamer during solos and not as bright. I like them, but they will be pulling duty depending on the style of music I'm in the mood to play.
