Marcus Miller signature Fat Beams were designed for Marcus' exacting standards. Marcus Miller is a pioneer in electric bass who has worked with Miles Davis, served as a producer for "Night Music," developed an extensive resume as a producer in L.A., and has played on more than 200 records.
Marcus Miller worked with DR to develop a new and improved version of one of the best stainless round wound bass strings on the market. The effort took over a year, and the result is a “fatter, deeper, smoother” string that satisfied Marcus Miller’s demanding standard. Fatter tone. Deeper sound, smoother feel and response are the qualities that separate Marcus Miller “Fat-Beams” from all other ordinary bass strings. New “Fat-Beams” are also more consistent in feel along the length of the string, as well as string to string.

The strings are awesome, they are the only strings I use, I have tried just about all, but these have great tone and quality.
These strings are prefect! I love my Stingray but I have always struggled with rattling frets. I was finally to the point where I thought dropping some flat wounds on my rig would solve that issue, but I was still on the fence because I didn't want my sound to go muddy. So I headed in to GC committed to picking up some flats but thank god for he Bass Nymph behind the counter that convinced me to try a set of DR Fat Beams. These are Goldilocks strings, not too bright, not too fat they're just right. I can crank up the treble on my bass and still have no issue with fret rattle and yet I can cut all the treble also without loosing tonal clarity. I don't have to crank my bass up to 11 to get the depth either. The balance of brightness, clarity and death are spot on. I feel like I can get much more expressive playing style without having to worry about the harsh brightness and rattle of most other strings. I just put these on my rig last week so longevity is still up in the air but if they can hold this tone for any decent amount of time I think that I have discovered my Holy Grail of strings.
These String do have a great sound on my marcus miller jazz bass, but not perfect. These strings boast more steel, and the E string feels very big, but not a problem. The strings feel tighter than the rotosound swing bass 66 strings i normally play, then again those are very flexible strings. Those eat frets however, which is why I tried the Fat beams. All in all I think the great sound these strings produce far outways the few cons. I definitely recommend atleast trying them out! I would like to try the medium/lights however!
I hated these strings. I can't play anything fast with these strings, I can't do pull offs, they're just overall hard to use. So unless you plan on playing nothing but funky slap bass, I wouldn't buy these strings.
If you love the sound of marcus miller you'll be very pleased with these strings. If you dont know marcus look him up. Whether you have his signature model bass by fender or not the sound these strings are one of a kind. I use them on my fender 24 and these strings give a very bright and beutiful sound along with the much needed low end. For the price you cant beat these strings.
