DR NEONs are super bright color coated strings that sound clear, bright and musical. Players are falling in love with the bright NEON colors and their remarkable sound. Super bright in daylight and under stage lighting, DR's NEON are 100% black light active and glow strongly under UV lighting. NEONs are the first coated string to make no apologies. While NEONs last as long as a coated string should (three to four times as long as uncoated strings) they sound as good, or better, than uncoated strings.

So, I put four of these strings on my 4 string Variax fretless bass. They are a thinner gauge overall than I am used to after years of Rotosounds, but they do sound ok. I only ran into one serious problem and that is, doing a glissando, that is while sliding my fingers up the neck, they actually experienced a burning sensation. This something I have never experienced before. For that reason alone I would NEVER buy these strings again. The only reason I would rate these at two stars instead of one star is that, perhaps if you are playing a fretted bass and don't do many glides up or down the fingerboard, you might not be bothered by this. Also, the four strings, in their various neon colors, absolutely look great on the bass.
I got these strings on a whim, having never played 6 string before. Thought they would give the all black bass a striking look. That part is the good news. These strings do look colorful. Ultimately, if they turn out to be good strings, I am hoping I can order them in the color I want, not the colors they insist on. Well, turns out that 6 string bass is not for me. So, I took the strings off and began to put five of them on my five string bass. When starting to remove the G string, it came "unsprung." I wasn't even touching the string, just loosening the machine head, when boingo, it just stretched out by itself. In 40 years of playing bass, I've never seen a bass string do that. So, as always, I phoned G.C. and they took care of my problem with their usual excellent customer service, and sent me out a full replacement set at no charge, with no obligation to return the prior set. At this time I don't know much about the strings themselves and will update this review. I decided to put four of them on my Variax 4 string. They look stunning. I will update this review when I can deal with their playing sound and durability. I have heard that the color tends to fall off soon, but I have never read anything denigrating the sound of the strings, but we will see what happens. I decided to put Rotosound Tru-bass nylon-wrapped on my OLP 5 to match the strings I already put, with much success, on my OLP 4. Thanks for reading!
