Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend Bass Strings Medium:

I got a new decent quality Ibanez Bass and with the stock round wound strings, it played "pretty well" but lacked "punch" and really faded on the upper end of the register. Otherwise the Bass played well. On my instructor's recommendation (specifically he recommended the DR flat wounds), I put these on, and re-calibrated all the tuning and adjustments on the Bass (I am told this is necessary because the tensions are all very different, and the adjustments made were pretty significant). Anyway, these strings made my new Bass sound "Amazingly Smooth!". The tone evened out across the whole register, and this Bass plays better than many high end Basses (even been told this by some pro's in the business a long time). I am astonished by the range of sounds I can get with this set up, between using different playing techniques and adding different effects.

I am now a DR-Flat-wound Junkie! Love them! Unless anything better comes along, I will stick with these.

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend Bass Strings Medium:

I have started learning the bass. These strings are excellent because they are very smooth to play because they don't grab my fingers. Plus, they have a great smooth tone quality, not twangy or slappy.

    A bright flatwound

    By Charles O'Leary

    from Denver CO

Comments about DR Strings Flatwound Legend Bass Strings Medium:

Sure, a roundwound bass string will always have a brighter tone than a flatwound, if that is what you're looking for. The DR flatwounds are brighter than other flats that I have tried(Fender, La Bella, Ernie Ball etc.). If blues, jazz or very vintage rock is your thing, give these a try. Save your frets and fingers and no more annoying fret noise while still getting a somewhat bright sound. A little bit more expensive than others but still worth the price.
