Overview

The first thing you notice with DR Drop-Down Tuning Bass strings is how stable they are. DDT strings maintain their intonation at lower tunings far better than other strings you may have played or heard. Players say these bass strings are so stable it is almost eerie.

Now you can "stand and deliver" in-tune notes at lower pitches that are clean and clear-plus you can drop tune with confidence and accuracy. You'll be surprised how few adjustments you'll make to change tunings and will be even more surprised how well DR Drop-Down Tuning strings lock into tune. DR

Experienced players comment: "Tuned down, I was never able to play a favorite riff. It always came out muddy and garbled. Now it is crystal clear. I am going to record it and give it to my bandmates, who could not hear it before."

DR DDT strings deliver far more than just heavy gauges-they deliver impeccable bass tone.

Heavy gauges: 55-75-95-115.

My band plays in Drop C and we have been looking for strings that would give our sound better ledgeability and we found them with the DDTs! I play on a Schecter Elite - 4 and since I've put them on and tuned down about 2 weeks ago I havn't had to touch my tuners! They lock in and stay where you put them even out of the box! They also clean up the muddiness that normally comes from tuning down so low. The highs are crisp and clear and the lows are balls and defined! Would recomend them to anyone that is tuning down!!!

Installed strings, when tuning low e to tension the core snapped.

GuitarCenter offered to either go into the store or send back and a replacement would be issued in upto 4 weeks.

Neither were acceptable, was able to eventually arrange a replacement with line managers assistance.

G string broke ... ... ...

By Knilc

from Ft. BraGG, NC

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

Yep. It broke on me as soon as I started to tighten it. (I own a Squire [an economy Fender] Bass. I think part of the reason it broke is because of that round piece that the D and G strings go under...) the D string I cut too short (not blaming DR, that's my own fault). I did manage to get the E and A strings on successfully, though. I notice a slight difference between the Fender medium-light flat wounds and these (bearing in mind, I'm only using strings E & A) But then again, I don't have that 'trained ear' that REAL musicians have. TIP: If you're gunna tune THESE strings the same as your CURRENT strings, cut them the same length the the string it's replacing. I realize that most of the Bassists who come to a site like this are A LOT better than me. I put that tip there for the other rookie Bassists out there.

Best strings for anything Metal

By Greg Franks

from Oak Lawn, Illinois

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

I'm currently using these DR DDT's on my modded Ibanez Gio with Seymour Duncans, i've heard people who have been playin guitar and bass for years say that strings are strings, DR has prooved them wrong, i used these strings at band practice and a show, and the bright end, punch, and low end all cut through, me and my band are extremely impressed with these strings. I play in Drop C, and they didnt go out tune even after heavy/fast finger picking with slapping and popping like crazy. I have used other strings, and these are by far the best for playing drop tuning music, especially Metal. If you play Heavy music in dropped tuning, buy these strings, you won't regret it.

Bangin strings

By DentingLeopard

from Houston TX

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

So I have a 5 string squier jazz bass and they obviously don't have a 5 string so I got a 135 for my B string and they sound amazeing in standard and dropped. I use these on my 5 string and E.B. Super slinky on 4 string and I love them both the only down side to the DDT is in standard tuneing they have alot of tension in it (some people like that but thats just me and not faulting DR they obviously wernt made for standard hence the name). I highly recomend this for any one who plays Gospel,Rock slipknot, trivium, slayer, metallica etc... Even gospel I play at my church an they sound great also they have good sustain wich I love and the chords explode and when your playing a melodic rythm they notes almost glow so in a nut shell standard or dropped there great buy, buy, buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow!

By Stacy Prados

from Lafayette, LA

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

I just recently starting playing some music tuned to CGCF. These strings keep the same tension in C as other strings do in E. This means little or no neck adjustment and strings that don't flop around or sound clanky! I was skeptical at first because some DR strings have round cores in their strings, and as a result, they don't stay in tune and are hard to intonate. These, however, have hexagonal cores and do exactly what DR boasts they do....they go right into tune and intonate very well. I put them on my bass, tuned and intonated them in about 20 minutes! I've never done that before with any string by any brand. They are extremely loud, and unlike other steel strings, they are not overly bright or harsh. They are also cut out to 37 or 38 inches, so if you have an extra-long scale bass (35"), aka the Ibanez BTB, Peavey Cirrus or an MTD, you don't have to worry about the tapered end falling into the nut. I haven't tried them in standard tuning, as I have another bass for that purpose so I can keep this one down-tuned. If you play a dropped tuned instrument, buy these.

Finally

By Jose Vasquez

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

I have finally found my choice of bass strings, after years of trying different gauges and our band tuning lower and lower after each release. This set has a nice feel, tone and clarity to them. Used these strings to C standard and they are awesome!

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

These string are junk. I love other DR string but these are specifically not worth the money. I play Grunge, deth core, metal, and Death metal on a Schector 5 string. They just didnt appeal to me.

    solid silver

    By Jon Pratt

    from North Kingstown, Rhode Island

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

I was skeptical at first but sure enough, they stayed in tune right out of the box. I strung them up and tuned down to DADG to play a couple of my favorite songs in this tuning. To my surprise after playing the same two songs twice and plugging in to my tuner, they were still all locked in! No sharps or flats to fiddle with. I must admit to never having experienced a set of strings that will actually do that. As I'm sure you all know, most times we have to run through some songs and re-tune when our strings are new. I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform in CGCF. My only complaint is that it is a little hairy crimping before I cut to the lenght I need for each tuning peg since there is still so much extra winding to deal with. Don't we all play 34 or 35inch scale basses anyway? No disrespect to DR but it seems to me that There is way too much lenght on ALL strings with ALL string companies. Overall I would have to say that these are quite impressive and worth a try. I like the tight feel and punchy sound that cuts through the lows, mids, and highs. Good job DR! I only gave 4 stars based on the fact that the strings have only been on my bass for 24 hours and I don't know how they last. Thanks for producing a product that so far seems to live up to its hype!

        Best Strings I've Ever Used!

        By Daniel Kreft

        from Franklin Springs GA

Comments about DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning Heavy Bass Strings:

I like to play my Traben Torrent bass ( 36'' extra long scale)in drop C. First off, very few strings will actually fit this bass due to its extra long scale. DR delivers as everything they make will fit long scale basses. Whenever I would play in this tuning the intonation would be so off that I would have to play awkwardly to attempt to get the tuning correct up the neck. Once I put these strings on and reset my bass, I had perfect intonation up all 24 frets! Not only is the intonation problem resolved, but the notes sound clearer, crisper, and louder. I will not buy any other string for my bass from this point forward - DR for life!
