• Best strings for anything Metal

  I'm currently using these DR DDT's on my modded Ibanez Gio with Seymour Duncans, i've heard people who have been playin guitar and bass for years say that strings are strings, DR has prooved them wrong, i used these strings at band practice and a show, and the bright end, punch, and low end all cut through, me and my band are extremely impressed with these strings. I play in Drop C, and they didnt go out tune even after heavy/fast finger picking with slapping and popping like crazy. I have used other strings, and these are by far the best for playing drop tuning music, especially Metal. If you play Heavy music in dropped tuning, buy these strings, you won't regret it.

• Best String for Down Tuning

  I bought a set of these strings a few weeks ago. A little background, I have been playing bass for a number of years, essentially graduated with a B.A. in Music, and given a few lessons. Long story short, I have sworn by DR since I first purchased a high end bass, that being a Spector Euro 4 LX, the only string I ever played on was the High Beams, even in a rock/pop type band sounded excellent. I always had an affinity for metal and the last year and a half I've been in a group that plays C,G,C,F (Drop C). Being the tone junkie I am, I've consistently searched for the best string for my new set up. Fender Aerodyne Bass with Seymour Duncan bassline P & J pickups. Amp set up: Ampeg SVT-Pro 3. I've played through heaviest gauges of Ernie Ball, been through D'Addario, just to try new things out. Then DR released these strings, I ordered them when the first came out and it took my local store (closest G.C. is 1 hour away) a bit to get them in. When they did, from the moment I strapped them on I knew these were the ones. From the first note I noticed that there was no "slack" in the string from low tuning. It was real tense and firm that had great sustain to carry the low frequencies yet they allowed them to cut through on the high end without sounding to "Bright" Like a high beam would normally. I even convinced our guitar player to switch over to them and he has blown away by the output of the guitar. If you want a good heavy sound without sacrificing overall tone, I highly recommend the selection of these strings. As long as I'm involved in a metal group, I will be purchasing these strings. Even if you don't play "Drop C" I tuned a to standard and Drop D as well and these strings still sounded great. Even have a "natural growl" to them as I like to say.

  I was skeptical at first but sure enough, they stayed in tune right out of the box. I strung them up and tuned down to DADG to play a couple of my favorite songs in this tuning. To my surprise after playing the same two songs twice and plugging in to my tuner, they were still all locked in! No sharps or flats to fiddle with. I must admit to never having experienced a set of strings that will actually do that. As I'm sure you all know, most times we have to run through some songs and re-tune when our strings are new. I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform in CGCF. My only complaint is that it is a little hairy crimping before I cut to the lenght I need for each tuning peg since there is still so much extra winding to deal with. Don't we all play 34 or 35inch scale basses anyway? No disrespect to DR but it seems to me that There is way too much lenght on ALL strings with ALL string companies. Overall I would have to say that these are quite impressive and worth a try. I like the tight feel and punchy sound that cuts through the lows, mids, and highs. Good job DR! I only gave 4 stars based on the fact that the strings have only been on my bass for 24 hours and I don't know how they last. Thanks for producing a product that so far seems to live up to its hype!
