These strings are great. The coating not only looks great, it also extend the life of your strings w/out losing tone and punch. I have a set on my red Traben Array Limited five string (They were out of the five string set so I got a separate B string) and I couldn't be happier. They coating has come of just a little bit on one string by were I pick, put its hardly noticeable. I plan on getting the cool blue set for my amber Ibanez SR700. One thing you should note is that if you have an extremely long scale bass (like my Traben) and you have the option of stringing thru the bridge or the body, I'd string the E string thru the body cuz it just barely makes it passed the nut (same goes for a B string). All the other strings can go thru the body. Never had a problem with lower than standard tunings, but then again I' normally never go lower than drop C tuning. Overall, these are some of the best strings around.
After trying those other high end coated strings I was looking for something with a little extra punch. The coating on these strings are much thinner and lets the tone through better. The coating does wear off fairly quickly with a pick, but I mainly play finger style and the coating tends to last just as long as any other coated string. Even when it wears through, its not like its hideous looking or anything either. These are the best strings I've played on.
I received these strings for Christmas 2006 and they are absolutely phenomenal. With a deep earthy tone and they just make the low end sound so full. My only problem is the fact that the coating near the bottom of the strings come off rather easily.
