Overview

The legendary analog DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 is back, with over 40 years of history and experience behind it. The 2013 version of the legendary DOD 250 captures of the classic tone and wild heart of the original but in no way tames its performance.

The 250 is better than ever before with true-bypass, a crisp, blue LED indicator, gobs of output, and modern 9V DC power supply input. Redesigned with a lighter aluminum chassis, sleek yellow metallic flake and flat black matte bottom paint job, the 2013 DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 pedal is the perfect sonic foundation to carry on the legacy of DOD.

The DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 (2013) has Gain and Level controls, like its predecessors. Gain controls the amount of distortion, from just a touch of grit to all-out grind. Level dials in some subtle body for "always on" performance or huge amounts of boost for boosting solos above a dense stage mix. With the Gain all the way down, crank up the Level to boost your sound and cut through during your solos.

True-bypass allows your guitar tone to remain pristine even when the DOD 250 is off. This is a big difference from the original which would color your bypassed tone. The modern 9V DC power supply input make the pedal more pedal board friendly.

Comments about DOD Analog Overdrive Preamp 250 Guitar Effects Pedal with True-Bypass and LED:

I've tried quite a few different styles of ODs: Soul Food, Bad Monkey, FAT Drive, and the Sonic Glory. Of the ones I've tried, the DOD gives me the sound I hear in my head...everything from a slight tube push, to a nice crunch, to an almost fuzz. It is brighter than the others, which is good for my amps. I would say it's less "middy" than the Soul Food, so arguably more transparent/open, if that's what you're after. It stacks well with my Fuzz Goddess Fathom before it and the Catalinbread Belle Epoch after it makes it ethereal when needed...so it seems to play nicely with others. I like the history of it, and for the price, you can't complain too much, can you? Definitely worth a try. I plan to keep it on my board for awhile. Nice work, DOD!

Comments about DOD Analog Overdrive Preamp 250 Guitar Effects Pedal with True-Bypass and LED:

I have the Original made back in 1982. Smaller Knobs, slightly diff paint, works great to hold my soldiering iron off carpet...But the sound? Think Santana. Nice Overdriven but doesn't boost any part of sound range like treble. Played with everything from 57 strat re issue to modified les paul to other guitars with hotter pick ups through a Mod Silverface twin reverb with dist channel and this box helps me get 4 amp sounds from 2 channels. I keep Gain on 7 or 8 and level on 3 or 4 and pre amp on twin at 7-10. Just make sure your DC plug tip is correct. I wouldn't ever give up my DOD 250. PS, mine is true bypass as the switch is wired directly to the jacks. The only thing that comes close is a Boss Super Overdrive.

Comments about DOD Analog Overdrive Preamp 250 Guitar Effects Pedal with True-Bypass and LED:

Great product. Caught this gem on sale and was recommended to me for a clean boost. Really warms up my tone. This is the first pedal in my chain and is always on with gain all the way down and volume boosted to taste. I play a les paul into a Vox NT15C1. Sometimes I will toggle it off to use it as a volume booster for solo's or louder parts of a song and doesn't effect the tone. I think its best use is to always have it on since it is transparent it pushes the signal just enough to really warm the tone on my NTC1.

Comments about DOD Analog Overdrive Preamp 250 Guitar Effects Pedal with True-Bypass and LED:

I had an original Overdrive preamp 250 when I was 14...many years ago. I used it well into my 2o's, before i had any issues with it (structurally and sonically), and have since retired it. Until purchasing the newer Overdrive/preamp 250, i couldn't find a SINGLE pedal that was as reliable, efficient and BALLSY. This pedal DELIVERS! Clean, crisp distortion, warm tone, amazing sustain...perfect for crunchy chords and especially for screaming solos

Comments about DOD Analog Overdrive Preamp 250 Guitar Effects Pedal with True-Bypass and LED:

For me, this works best as a clean solo boost. If my sound is clean, it stays clean, but if I have a dirty sound, I get the same sound louder for a solo or a passage that needs to be loud. You can turn the gain up, and it sounds a bit like a treble booster, helping the gain sound a bit thicker, but you probably wouldn't want it for your main dirt sound. With a Marshall, it sounds big and fat, but with clarity. I could use the high gain setting with that amp, but probably wouldn't use it with a crystal clean amp sound. With a clean amp sound, it is still very useful to boost a solo or passage. The eq is flat, so you don't get something different when you boost. It sounds bold and loud, not different like too bassy or too raspy and trebly like some other boosts.
