Lows are deeper, highs are more percussive and the mid-range is round but not muddy.

The hum-canceling DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz pickup for bass guitar takes a traditional Fender Jazz Bass sound and really opens it up. Harmonic overtones jump off the strings. It's also quick, with instant response to either fingers or pick-style playing. There's only one word for this combination of qualities: musical. Choose the perfectly matched Ultra Jazz pair, or try an Ultra Jazz bridge pickup with a Split P in the middle position.

  • Jazz Bass Pickups

As reviewed by Todd on 4/4/2009

These pickups are wonderful! I replaced the stock single-coil pickups in my Squier VM Fretless Jazz Bass to get the hum-canceling benefit. In addition to that, I also found that my overall sound improved and that the presence was greater. The pickups are very responsive and all notes played, from lows to highs, are more articulated. Sustain is great as well. I highly recommend these pickups.

  • Years of wasted basses!!!

As reviewed by William on 12/19/2010

For years I have traded up, traded down, and spent my tax return looking for a better sound. Finally, I gave up and just figured the sound I wanted wasn't to be had in my budget. I took one last chance and finally just installed new pickups and I can't believe it. I have been lusting over high-end basses in the stores for years and I no longer need to, these pickups have given my fender everything I thought it was missing. Just as advertised, the lows definitely are more prominent while still leaving the highs clear and bright. Great pickups. A must try for anyone who unsatisfied with his/her current sound.

  • The perfect replacement for the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass standard Fender original pickups.

As reviewed by Don Howell on 12/11/2012

I've been on a "tone search" for 2-1/2 years. I ended up with an Acoustic B800H amp (400 watts @ 8 ohms & 800 watts rms @ 4 ohms), an Acoustic Neo B15 (400 watts rms @ 8 ohms), and a GK Ultra Lite 15 (400 watts @ 8 ohms). So, I could either run 1 cabinet @ 8 ohms for 400 watts, or both cabinets in parallel for a true 800 watts. The perfect rig, where the Acoustic Neo B15 pushes lows, and the GK Ultra lite pushes the mids & highs. Although I've never needed the 800 watts, using both cabinets gave the perfect tone, rounding out the lows, mids, & highs perfectly. Two months ago I got my dream bass, the Fender Geddy Lee MIJ. For my hands, it has the perfect neck, with the lowest action possible across the whole fretboard. However, the tone/output from the stock pickups lacked any tone whatsoever...forget about the "orginal" jazz sound...it's tone dead no matter what rig you use. After exhaustive research on the internet, reading reviews from all the sources I could find, I settled on the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz as the best replacement pickups (I would not even consider active pups as I'm tired of worrying the battery would die in the middle of a gig!). Once the switch was completed (not that complicated to solder yourself) the difference was more than night & day. Output increased, every note across the fretboard rang out clear as a bell with even volume, and the single coil hum is gone forever. I cannot stress enough how much difference the new pickups made. I am totally satisfied with bass now, and even if I won millions in the lottery, I would not buy any other bass other than the Getty Lee Jazz and install the DiMarzio pups. To me...the perfect bass to go along with my perfect rig. Don't forget the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickup have the bridge pickup slighly larger than the neck for a perfect fit for some jazz basses...other jazz basses (I believe including MIM have same size pickups and the bridge one would be too large to fit.) Research pays off on this. I am a seaoned semi-pro bassist in a host band for a weekly blues jam and the compliments keep coming in every week on my tone and the fact that you can now hear every single note across the fretboard clear and all at the same volume.
