I have played and owned many high-end guitars this by far is the best value I have ever had on a guitar. Plays unbelievable! awesome action right out of the case. The entire body resonates plays better than my HD 28! I must've got lucky.

Comments about D'Angelico Mercer Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Picked up one of these up at Guitar Center a few hours ago, took it home, plugged it in, gave it a run, I couldn't be happier. Looks great. I got the gloss black. Very classy, Plays great, good set up right out of the box, action is just right for me, and I love the sound. One of the other reviews says it has a "chime like" sound and it does, unique, never heard a tone just like it before, exceptional clarity, Maybe it is the brass pegs. The Fishman pickup lets you EQ very nicely works like a charm, good tone control right on board, and the "brilliance" control lets you make it sound as soft and warm or as "brilliant" as you want without sounding too sharp or aggressive and without messing with the low mid high balance. I got a blemished for $700, a couple small scratches if you look close enough, can't see 'em two feet away, at the regular GC price of $900 for unblemished it's still a steal, as good as or better than many instruments that cost a lot more, I've been playing a Fender flattop spruce / rosewood that I bought new for $500 in 1987, that would be maybe $1500 or $2000 now, this is just as good maybe better, I put a Baggs under saddle pickup on it about 25 years ago but never liked the sound, too bright, too aggressive, wanted an acoustic I could plug in and still have a good acoustic sound, this is the cat's meow.

Feels very good flat picking or fingerstyle. I'm a solo singer songwriter, cover a very broad spectrum of music, Originals, Marty Robbins, Ian Tyson, Sons of the Pioneers, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Beatles, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, anything I like that feels right for me, and this is gonna be good. Ten thumbs up. I've been playing for 54 years, not pro, but lots of fun, I currently have 9 guitars, D'Aquisto, Fender, Ibanez archies, now D'Angelico.

Comments about D'Angelico Mercer Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The guitar is an aesthetically a beautiful instrument with all the classic appointments you would expect from a D"Angelico. The attention to detail was impeccable and the instruments construction was top quality with a solid and tight feel. My overall impression of the instrument is that it feels and plays like a cross between a folk acoustic and a jazz box, and offers a perfect blend of both styles of instrument. The gloss sunburst finish was beautiful and gave the instrument a rich classic look. The frets were perfectly seated and polished with no sharp edges. The fingerboard was made of a high quality Rosewood that featured a very tight grain. The guitar played beautifully down the length of fretboard with no string buzzing or dead spots anywhere. The Grover Rotomatic tuning keys are top notch and offered accurate and smooth tuning with no string slippage. Acoustically the guitar has a beautiful balanced sound with a nice chime like ring. (Maybe do to the brass bridge pins.) Plugged into my Fishman amp the on board preamp allow plenty versatility and a natural amplified sound.

The guitar set up out of the box was perfect for most players. I say this because action hight is a personal preference based on the style of music and the touch of the individual musician. In my case I have a very light touch so I did make a slight adjustment of the truss rod and sanded down the saddle to bring the action down to my liking. None of these adjustments affected the clarity or tone of the guitar. (The true sign of a quality instrument.) After these minor adjustments I can honestly say my D'Angelico plays like a dream.

The only minor detractors were a slight imperfection on the lip of the sound hole where the lacker was applied and the binding at the top of the headstock had two minor blemishes. These imperfections were so small that it took me days of inspection to notice them and in no way detracted from the overall quality of the instrument.
