Comments about D'Angelico Excel Mott Acoustic Bass Guitar:

I purchased this for home use so the bass player wouldn't have to bring any equipment with him for practice and jams. Plus I can use it anytime I want whilst storing it at my house. Its a large instrument. It feels heavy in the case. Its huge! Its beautiful just like you'd expect. I had been eye balling the 12 string version of this model for some time but at the last minute chose the bass. I am pleased with the finish, the color, the detail, the sound and playability... even the case is well made. I did take it to the GC tech in Rancho Cucamonga as the action was very high past the 7th fret. He made a few adjustments after trial and error, to the truss rod and wa la! Nailed it! Thanks GC tech guy at Rancho Cucamonga!

Comments about D'Angelico Excel Mott Acoustic Bass Guitar:

It looks just like the pictures. Cosmetically beautiful. The single ply pick guard looks a little cheesey. Too bad they don't just leave it off. So... it is BIG and beautiful to gaze upon. Nice case too. It will need a set up beyond what I can do for it. I have always done my own set ups over the years but I'll leave this to the pros at the GC repair /set up to figure out. It plays and intonates up the neck fine but beyond the 7th the action is very high. The distance from the bottom of the strings to the top of the number one fret is so close I don't think it can go any lower there so I imagine it needs to release some tension on the neck and trim down the bridge height to make it an enjoyable play for me. The sound is good acoustically and plugged in. I could have purchased the laminated version for 499 but I decided to go for the solid wood instead. So, as long as all goes well with the luthiers at GC, its a nice acoustic bass with Fishman electronics. As soon as I get the time to drive 30 miles down the hill to Rancho Cucamonga (the big city) to the nearest GC from my location in the Mojave desert... I will get back to this review site for a final analysis... When will GC open a store serving the Victor Valley area of the high desert..?
