I finally decided to go with the brass. The biggest benefit: They won't break as easily. As far as tonality is concerned, I think it might vary from guitar to guitar. On my acoustic, the pins definitely increased the bass and somewhat alleviated a dead fret problem (F on the 5th string - standard tuning.) On the other hand, the pins robbed some of the highs and quieted the guitar down just a bit. On the whole, I am satisfied with these subtle changes in tone. I'm going to switch from Ivory to brass depending upon the situation. (I mostly use the guitar for recording.)

This is my first purchase at Guitar Center that was in any way disappointing. but these things are useless. they look great but won't stay in the bridge. they ride up as you try to tune and refuse to stay in place. I initially got them for my old flattop (1970's dreadnought-I'm not new at this). When that failed miserably, I decided to try them on an Epiphone that I bought my wife a few years back, thinking that I must have done something wrong or the old bridge was just too worn for them to seat properly. Same exact problem. I will be giving them to a friend who builds ratrods. perhaps he can use them in one of his builds as radio knobs or something. I refuse to send good money after bad in shipping them back. Avoiding D'Andrea products is something I will feature from here on in.

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

      These are good bridge pins.
They won't fit in every guitar -- they didn't work in my Ibanez but they fit in my Martin fine (with medium gauge strings. Maybe they'd pop out with extra-lights? Idk.)
In terms of tone, I like what they've done. Previously I had plastic pins in the guitar, so any material might have been an improvement, but I notice a more even note decay and harmonics/overtones ring out more.

There's nothing I miss about the stock plastic pins. If you have a Martin, these are worth looking at.

Beautiful Addition to Any Acoustic Guitar

      By

      from Faribault Minnesota

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

These pins are excellent and certainly add a massive amount of aesthetic appeal to any acoustic guitar. I love how they work, and they work well. I will say one thing however, dependant on the size of the pin holes in your bridge these pins may not fit. They do progressively get smaller from the E down to the e but the smallest pin is still just a little too large for the last hole in my bridge. I have a Takemine.

      Not Bad At All

      By

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I noticed a tone and sustain improvement using these. But then again the originals I had were plastic so they could only improve the sound. I like them so much i bought a set for my brother along with some Elixir strings.

      Great Value

      By

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

The pins that came with my Fender FA-100 were all cracked. I bought these to replace them, thought brass pins would be more durable, so got these instead of plastic ones. They cost a little more, are worth the extra cost.

      The pins are very photogenic

      By

      from Kanawha County, WV

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I purchased the abalone pins. The brass around the inlay isn't as crisp as I expected but a person would have to be examining the pins up close to notice. An audience would never notice. The other folks were right about the pins jumping out when strings are replaced. Changing the string on a 12-string acoustic is difficult enough without this extra challenge. Until I find sweeter looking pins though, these are more than fine.

      A Terrific Investment

      By

      from Socorro, New Mexico

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I purchased these when I saw that my new Ibanez came with plastic bridge pins. The D'Andrea pins are smaller than the pins that came with my instrument (AEG20E), but if they are held in place while tightening the strings, they stay in just fine afterwards. As for aesthetics, there really isn't any competition with the abalone/brass combination; it really compliments the sunburst design. Being a new player, I feel a little unqualified to opine on the tone quality, but I think it says something for the pins that even I can hear a distinct improvement in the sound. These pins are absolutely worth their price tag.

      Classic Look

      By

      from Granbury, TX

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

The D'Andrea brass bridge pins are definiately worth the few dollars you pay for them. I haven't noticed any difference in the sound or tone from my acoustic but these brass pins with the mother of pearl heads really dress my Martin up.

More sustain, nice alternative to ebony pins

      By

      from Spring City, TN

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:

I just put them on my Taylor 314CE, it improved the sustain dramatically, the sound is not as bright but definitely sounds good. When installing keep a finger on the pin while tightening the strings or you may have a launch. I wasn't holding it down when I tightened up my "D" string and the pin flew about 6 ft into the air. I purchased the gold abalone and they look kind of unfinished close up but fine at a distance. Worth a try if you want to improve the sustain.
